Casio Edifice Digital Watch

Look and Feel:

The Casio Edifice series has a style that definitely borrows tones from the Tag Heuer line of watches, especially the Carerra Calibre models. The watch face calls on the racing lines, 3D hour markers, and inset multiple dials leaving it looking like the dashboard of your favorite sports car. Considering this is a timepiece marketed towards the enthusiast crowd with a racing flair this could be a very good decision. The logo, coloring, and feel of the watch are all very nicely done.

For those wanting an enhanced feeling and functionality take a look at the EQWM1100DC Model:

Slightly pricier but worth every penny for the discerning consumer.

When putting on my wrist I was initially concerned with the rubber strap as these often cut off airflow to my skin and become difficult to wear over time, the strap on the Edifice I am pleased to say did not cause any issues and felt very comfortable.

Usability:

In the usability category I considered the ease of manipulation of controls, access to the information I wanted, and display readability. In this arena the Edifice EFA132PB is a bit of a mixed bag.  The analog hands often get in the way of reading information on one of the sub-dials and honestly there is little that could have been done with the exception of using clear hands. (Interesting Idea?)  Also the controls for setting the analog hands are not easy and require a bit of time to set properly. It took me two tries to get it right once I figured out how.

Note: Our demo unit arrived with no manual and no documentation.

Aside from the complex adjustment of the analog hands the rest of the watch is fairly easy to operate. Access to information is easy and the display is well done. I would like to have the EL backlight stay lit for a few more seconds but it is honestly not a big deal, currently the backlight stays lit for about 1 1/2 seconds which offers a brief glimpse of the dials to find what you are looking for.

Conclusion:

Ultimately the Edifice EFA132PB is a watch you will enjoy wearing that looks good and doesn’t cost a small fortune to do so. It combines functionality, good looks, and confort and is proof positive that some companies still invest time in R&D where it counts. The Casio EFA132PB is our recommended product for geeks and timepiece aficionados seeking a complex digital watch.  Casio offers several other styles of the Edifice series and each would make for an excellent gift for the guy in your life for the upcoming holiday season.  Stay tuned for future reviews of Casio watches and products.
