Gainward or BFG?

What do you think?

Both companies' reputation are about equal... do a google for 6800 GT benchmarks and see which model pulls through.

BFG is a better manufacturer... Lifetime warranty, too.

when you keep a videocard for your lifetime, then that might be a good time to think about that...

so take your pick.. a supposed better manufacturer, or a definiately better looking card (in most people's opinion)

lifetime warranty has a better resale value when you want to sell it

BFG should be cheaper too i think

how about looking into PNY?

only on ebay i'd think.. esp since when you OC (like all [i]real[/] techies do) you lose the warranty anyway...

I believe the gainward is clocked higher possibly, i could be wrong. But see what bundled software comes with it. I know for a fact that www.newegg.com is selling the BFG 6800GT with Doom3 free. But its solely your choice.

oh, I thought it was our choice.. ok

Actually the BFG is clocked higher, however reputable sites have reported that both cards are great performers. I haven't looked into which overclocks better, which I assume you are going to want to know with how much you generally OC.

Jason425

just because they're clocked higher doesn't mean it'll OC higher.. that basically means it comes OC'd a little bit...

That isn't what I said. I stated that I do not have a clue about how either will overclock.

i know, I was just pointing out that their starting clock rate doesn't really matter

I went with Gainward because you can get an Ultra for the price of GT ($$$ savings) and with a manufacture's warranty to back it up really tells me the engineers designed this card to perform at Ultra speeds, where as eVGA and BFG did not. Gainward is the only one to step up to the plate on this warranty!

The lifetime warranty is really unrealistic. What good is it to hold on to a Trident video card if it offered lifetime warranty?

yea it does, lets not assume that everyone who buys a 6800GT will overclock. SO the people who buy the ones w/ higher clock frequencies and who DO NOT OC will be more satisfied.

Jason425

those who don't OC don't deserve to be satisfied .. ;)

That entire statement is horse hockey. The BFG is cheaper than the Gainward and is clocked higher out of the box, has a MGF lifetime warranty and is supported by 24/7 toll free tech support.

Plus, it don't sound like a hoover vaccume cleaner like the Gainward (can you say 5800?).

I think both cards are great and neither one really outperforms the other. I went sensibly with my decision. Localy bought in case I have to take it back, lifetime warranty, free 24/7 support, and performs just as good as the next. If mine is DOA or craps out in a week, I take it back instead of having to send it off to the online retailer (if they take returns).

gg you prob paid like $600 then. ;)

The BFG is clocked at 370-1000 o'c out of box. The Gainward is 400-1100 out of box. The Gainward is guarenteed to run 400-1100 where the BFG is guarenteed to run 370-1000. Thats the warrenty I'm talking about. Price what did you pay 399.99 plus 9.25 in tax plus s&h. I paid 423 no tax and no shipping. But that was good advise I gave you on buy locally just in casse of a problem.

The fans are loud at first until you adjust them with the software.

And yes they are BOTH GREAT cards

That entire statement is horse hockey
Do the research and homework

But anyhow CONGRATS and the card you will love it over the 9800pro I do.

Yea, both cards are good, no doubt about that. But I do have to admit that so far I'm a bit disappointed with the BFG. Graphics are great and I get good scores all around but the overclocking is not as good as was reported in all the reviews I read.

However, I am able to reach Ultra speeds so I can't complain too much. :)

Yea, I can't OC as well as most other people can either. (video)

 I suddenly remember that 3 minute video nVidia made for the uses of a 5800!

Anyways, as to the Gainward providing a lifetime warranty, it isn't a true lifetime warranty as the BFG's is. It will only be through the life of the 6800 GT line that they carry. After that point, you'll only get a discount on the later generations (same thing with PNY). BFG, however, will give you a 100% free replacement if the card fails for as long as you have the card. Plus, BFG's support is absolutely amazing; it reminds me of Crucial's.
