Howcome my computer which is downstairs (Connected with a cable right from the router) download speed is 2700kbs while my upstairs one (connected with linksys wireless at 11mbs - "Signal Strength: Excellent") gets only about 250 kbs. The uploads on both comps are 154 kbs which is the max by my isp. what's weird is that my upstairs computer is much faster than my downstairs one. It just doesnt make any sense.

Wireless are crappy when far away. :banghead: Get huge cat5's and go through the walls.

Not really, I have a one story and use a D-Link 624RevC and get about .. the same speeds. Over 3MBPS for each, although the signal strengths sometimes change.

My wireless works perfect. I have a wireless D-link router and it works like a normal LAN cable is plugged in the back. Reaching speeds of 300-500kb/s when i download from sites like www.downloads.com etc.... Comcast cable rocks. I have motorola modem if that helps any. Yea i dont know why yours is running so slow...

I just upgraded to Wireless G because my B wasn't cutting it. I was getting a low to no signal from our router that was only 100 ft away! I now get a very good signal from it, plus I can see more networks than I ever have, there are at least 10 around my complex...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't 2700 kbs be like 2.7 gigabits download?

If it's a typo and should be 270kbs and the other machine is 250kbs, then they are getting about the same so in reality there isn't a problem.

I'm wondering if he's mixing up bits and bytes.

I wish they'd just pick one way of saying it.. it's confusing sometimes....

It's especially difficult when people interchange b and B.

For everyone's future reference:
b is for bit, a 1 or 0
B is for byte, a peice of data made up of 8 bits.

That's why there is a big difference between a 1Mb connection and a 1MB connection. The latter is 8 times as fast...
