So I am in the market for a new xbox since I had to sell it and everything (180$)
I am wondering weather I should go with a modded one with a hard drive and FTP interface.
Pro's: Game backups play DVD's and movies over the network (doubles as DVD player)
No CD's
Cons: No Xbox Live,
Not covered by a warranty.
If modded what are things to look for in a modded one?

that it works.. I am too scared (or lazy) to mod mine.. and the fact that it's not mine.. it's my brothers.. and that I never play it.. take your pick..

Well, if you know what you're doing, you should be ok, I doubt you'll break it.

modding is not an easy thing to do, though it is significantly easier on an xbox than a PS2. It requires significant skill to solder some of the wires onto those extremely small leads. If i were to 'mod' an xbox, i'd just go with installing a linux distro onto it. I think you can undo that if you are really into doing xbox live.
**note i said "i think." I would double check that before doing anything drastic, like actually installing something onto your xbox. **

Cons: No Xbox Live,
Who ever said no Xbox Live? There is a way to turn off the mod chip and run your system undetected.

"Supports XBOX LIVE:
ALL systems come with an EXTERNAL DISABLE SWITCH for compatibility with XBOX LIVE**"
** YOU MUST DISABLE THE MODCHIP AND PLAY RETAIL GAMES ON XBOX LIVE
These modded systems come with the Cromwell Linux BIOS v1.9 to configure you need to burn bios.bin to a CDRW to reflash system[/quote]
