My current rig specs:

Gigabyte K8NSNXP Motherboard
AMD64 3000+ CPU @ 230 FSB, 10 Multi = 2.3Ghz
1GB OCZ EL Platinum Rev2 Dual Channel Kit (2-2-2-5)
BFG 6800GT OC
2x 200GB WD SATA Hard Drives (RAID 0)
1x 180GB WD SE IDE Hard Drive
CD/DVD RW Drive
Koolance Watercooling
3Dmark 2001se 22727

The OCZ memory is probably to most significant upgrade so far. This memory is absolutely amazing in regards to speed. I'm replacing the motherboard with a DFI Lanparty UT nF3 250GB.

Here are pics of the timings, overclocking, and temps using the Gigabyte motherboard. After I upgrade and benchmark, I'll post more pics.

Sorry about that GT.. Stinky and I got rid of ours as soon as we could... overrated...

i dont think its overrated
its kicking ass in my AMD system

read my posts fully before telling me to read other ppl's posts fully

Jason425

it'll kick ass until it burns out... or are you not OC'ing... or do you have some super ass cooling on it

eviltechie
11-11-2004, 11:59 PM
i have 3 sticks of it
2x256
1x512

the duals are the PC3200 EL Dual Channel Kit
the single 512mb is equivalent series but bought seperately

all have copper heatspreader with decent airflow in my case

im OCing only 200FSB/ram bus on it
but that IS the rated speed of PC3200
vdimm right now reads 2.768v
sometimes 2.752v

was talking about the GT, not the ram.. but cool...

may be overated but it spanks the 9800. Have both and TRUST me the 6800GT (Gainward GS what I've got) is better :wavey:

eviltechie
11-12-2004, 01:48 AM
lol sorry for the misunderstanding

at first i didnt know what you were talking about when you only mentioned GT

so i assumed you were talking about the ram being overrated
lol

yeah of course 6800GT spanks 9800 Pro's ass

looks like they just arent meant to be overclocked without better cooling
oh well, it performs quite well without OCing already doesnt it?

Performs like a beast when it isn't OC's... but still... If it wasn't the heat/HD problem I would have kept it and softmodded it.

Jason425

I know it's better.. I just don't want a dead $400 fireball...

ok.. now you are making it sound like trash..

Jason425
11-12-2004, 09:25 PM
it's not trash.. just more of a risk than i'm willing to take for $400...

eviltechie

what were you case temps with that "firebal" in there, jason425?

also cik, what are your comp's temperatures now?
and the noise level?

Jason425
11-13-2004, 02:27 PM
dunno.. asus probe says one thing the nvidia thing says it's much higher.. it's a fact of life if you look on forums, the new BFG fan sucks balls.. esp when OC'd... if I can keep my cpu under 55* with tolerable noise under load, my case temps aren't that bad...

probe says mobo temp is 40..

eviltechie
11-13-2004, 04:32 PM
oooh thats hot

i would definately get an ARCTIC COOLING NV SILENCER 5 VGA COOLER for a 6800 GT

ive heard ppl keeping it at 71c with arctic silver 5 too

perhaps you need better case fans

CiKoTiC

Koolance CPU probe reads 27C and the BIOS CPU Temp reports 32C. Under load, temps only go up a few degrees.

I'm currently running the DFI Lanparty UT 250GB motherboard at 245 FSB @ 2450Mhz AMD64 3000+ using very tight timings (2-3-3-5) and 4x HT. CPU voltage is at 1.6V and Memory voltage is 2.7. Right now with these settings the system is rock solid. Keeping these settings I can boot XP at 250 FSB but run into stability problems. I have much more headroom on the CPU and Memory settings that if I loosen things up, I may be able push on up to 260-275 FSB.

Noise levels? what noise? Watercooling owns!

I don't know what the big fuss over the BFG 6800GT OC is. Mine OC's to 405/1.02 which is fine with me and the heat is no problem what so ever on it.

Jason425
11-13-2004, 05:35 PM
that's a 20 mhz OC on the memory... lousy... I got to 395/1.1 which is better.. but still not ultra.

Yes an NV5 is almost a necessity for a GT.. I have a silencer on my 9800 right now...

CiKoTiC
11-13-2004, 06:09 PM
You forget the BFG is already OC'd. I've yet to see mine perform lousy or go up in a fireball. I'm very pleased with it. Besides, I'm not going for maximum FPS, I'm going for maximum system performance which is turning out to be pretty darn good.

Jason425
11-13-2004, 06:36 PM
Mine didn't go up in a fireball, and if yours is watercooled I doubt it will..

and the "oc" they give it is a joke.. the memory is the same as all GT's and the core comes only 20mhz higher.. it's basically a gimmick

My CPU is water cooled. Not my video card.

thats some awesome temperature

but really, enough of 3dmark already!!
lol

Jason425

have you checked the temp on your bfg ciko? I doubt it's any less than 80 celcius under load (get rthdribl to check real load temps)

mine got as high as 89* when OC'd...

CiKoTiC

Ok, I ran that program for about 15 minutes. I still don't see anything out of the ordinary as far as temps go... anything else you want me to run?

you're supposed to run it stretched so that it takes up most of the screen... but whatever

come on.. lay off of him, jesus, he proved you wrong so enough.

Jason425

"so enough" are you a 16 year old girl?

That's how you're supposed to do it. I respect his cooling but that's the way it's supposed to be done. If he gets similar temps then, then

CiKoTiC
11-16-2004, 11:00 PM
I'm not stupid, I know how to run it. I minimized it for the pic just to prove that I "was" running it.

Jason425
11-17-2004, 12:47 AM
minimizing it doesn't prove that you had it maximized at all... I never called you stupid or a liar; I was just trying to get you the truest results...

whats it matter its his card and not yours. All you seem to do around here is put down peoples stuff and always have a smart @$$ answer to everything. If you don't have anything nice to say or any info that would help out the person then just keep your hole shut for crying out loud. Gets pretty old looking around this forum and just about every post there will be JASON with something smart or something that doesn't pertain to the question. But I'm sure this will spark things up :wavey:

Or better yet, go get stoned, mr. 420...
