Hi,
As most of you know (ones that watch the news)
southern asia is in deep trouble after the massive earthquake (9.0) and the tsunamis after it
we should come together globally to help out the disaster relief as we are much more fortunate than those in need of emergency help now.
here are some links to a few non-profit organizations that need your donation now
http://www.redcross.org/
http://www.unicef.org/
http://worldvision.org/
We have received care from our loved ones during christmas
it is now our chance to pass on the spirit and help out others
Thank you.

I for one WILL NOT be donating to this cause because I feel homeless and poor people here in the USA need it more then those people over there that do nothing but fight each other and produce muslim extremists!!!!

dude.. whats the matter with you. a hundred and fifty thousand people died and all you can do is look for reasons not to help out. so how much money would have gone to the tsunami fund if you werent gonna give it to the homeless here? or did you find a reason not to help them out too?
oh yeah, and at least the feel like they are fighting for something over there. i agree with their reasons more than i agree with killing someone because you want their shoes.
not being able to donate is one thing.. but being able to help and finding a reason not to is something to be looked down on. come on people... even encouraging other to donate is helping out, but dont thwart the cause.

Who is more likely to use the money well? A junkie on the streets of NY who dropped out of high school.
OR
A small boy who just lost both of his arms in the earthquake and has almost no hope of a career now..
think cafefully.

I have sent 2600 dollars to my local homeless shelter and have set up a reoccurring 100 monthly donation through my bank. those people have done nothing for the world people yet they expect us to help them. Do you think they sent aid to California when they had the quake a few years back? How about to Iran when they had their quake? No country will get my money unless americans were the majority dead.

I feel no sorrow for california residents
when they stop buying silicone for their boobs lips and etc.
When they stop buying hummers
etc etc. The USA is quite wasteful (I think a lot of people in here will agree) we have plenty of moolah but we dont spend it wisely.

well, i apologize. i stand corrected. but surely you understand that they all deserve the money just as much as anyone else? whats so different about americans that they deserve it more? and whats it matter who helps first? youd want their help if it happened to you.

its the simple fact that we americans have donated and helped out with more relief disasters then ANYONE else in the world. Yet when WE have disasters we get no or VERY LITTLE help. Infact we are hated there in those muslim fanatic countries. The governments of those countries should be taken out of office and jailed for not having an adequate warning system up, like we do. The death toll would prolly still be under 100k if they did. Like one weather guy got fired because he knew it was going to happen but didnt want to "scare" tourists. Dont know how tsunami equate to weather since thats not a weather element but the simple fact it was their own fault so many were lost.

Because we dont need the help. Thanks to bush we are in a constant state of readiness for constant disasters. And yet he doesnt put much into getting homeless off the streets.

no...thanks to bush we're all scared of everything.. and the US is one of the worst among powerhouse nations as far as donations go (as a % of DNP)... Pro.. you have turned into an american hater... and weatherman is why... and I am ashamed of all 3 of us... :(

Jason425, I don't see why you are ashamed of yourself. Of the ones who have continued the discussion to this point, you are the only one not being racist and making all sorts of media-hyped generalizations/stereotypes.
Weatherman, while you're right that we, as a nation, have given out far more than anyone else and received little in return, with virtually no gratitude, I'm not sure that justifies our not helping. Some of the villages along the coastlines may not have even known a land existed on the otherside of the Pacific, let alone that there may have been an earthquake in that land.
I'm deeply disgusted that the conversation has turned into a debate on what inferior (as suggested) deserves a pity handout so we can happily post how generous we are while sitting among our many luxuries. I'm not sure that the high-school-dropout junkies, referred to earlier, and other homeless chose to shiver through the night under a park bench (keeping the rain off them a little bit) after they finished their dinner composed of a half eaten chicken wing found from the nearest dumpster and some soup not scraped out of a can. Likewise, I'm not sure that Asians were laughing at Californians when their earthquakes have happened. Even if donations that they'd have made would have made the slightest difference, I don't feel they have that much of an obligation to try to help when they are living in poverty themselves and struggling to live themselves. Californian losses weren't due to a lack of resources.
Think carefully.

thats kind of what im saying. i dont think its right to use them not helping us as an excuse not to help them. who cares who needed it more. if you can help you should help. like i said before, it doesnt matter who helps out who first. if everyone decides not to help just because they havent been helped yet, were never gonna get anywhere.
I will concede that the stereotypes aforementoined by myself were inappropriate.

Pro, don't double post.
ET, Weatherman is right, we do give more than any other country. Maybe not to every specific cause, like the ones not hitting as close to home as others, but in an overall sense, I'd like to see stats of any other country putting out even half of what the U.S. does.

thats because of the population and personal estates in US compared to the rest of the world
each country's contribution has to be taken in account of population and its economy
anyways
i dont want to talk about politics as it always get in the way of disaster relief
i guess i still cant convince some of you to donate
