I played around with the w98 start floppy
to see if I could make it more useful
Please try it SPAMhttp://w1.494.telia.com/~u49403693
It is start98modbeta5.exe a winimage SFX which formats
and makes the floppy, 1704k in size
It has Norton commander on it, not full version but
has editor, filehandling (attrib etc.) wpview, arcview
nczip (double click on *.zip and it opens as folder and just
mark files you need and copy) mouse support (not usb)
Also has syschk a program to get some hardware info
and IRQs etc. works ok except for its benchmarking
and xclone a dir and drive cloning tool it handles
long filenames if you run in windows but not in DOS
but you can clone w98s installation folder in DOS
because it does not have any long filnames.
I have taken attrib, debug and ext out from original
added emm386 for better memory handling
removed mscdx and oakdrom.sys and replaced them
with vide-cdd.sys SPAMand shucdx.exe which are about the
half size and works fine also fdisk is a the free fdisk
also smaller and does a bit more.

Try it out and give me feed back please.

How do i know that this is not a virus that is going to erase all my files and email it to all of my contacts?

You don't !
But I'm a member and easy to trace.
I could put the winimage in a zip file
but everybody doesn't have winimage
so I made an SFX which formats and writes
the floppy.
If you have winimage you can open file
in winimage and look at it.
Also scan it in a AVP to be sure.

I will make a *.imz file of it and put in zipfile for
those who prefer that

Now also in zip file but winimage needed to create
floppy http://www.winimage.com/winimage.htm

For those who think that I as regular member would
be stupid enough to offer a virus here on the board
no offence meant bye this, it is good to be careful.

cheers

I have a floppy more modded then yours :)

I tried using CTMouse at home and I could never get the cursor in edit to move with it. Of course I was trying a later version they you're using. So I use the IBM Mouse driver 8.2.

And another thing, do we really need emm386? i've been running my startup disk find without it.

Anyways, here's mine. Enjoy
