View Full Version : Windows.... "pagefile.sys"

My desktop machine and my laptop both run Windows XP Home Edition. The desktop system has a 160GB hard drive but the laptop only has 40GB. Each system is split into 4 drives:- C:, D:, E: and F:

My desktop machine's C: drive has a small(ish) file called pagefile.sys which I always assumed to be its swap file (it's about 400MB). However, this morning I noticed that my laptop has a separate pagefile.sys for each drive!!. And they all have today's date - so presumably they're all being used. I wouldn't be unduly upset about this if they were small files, like on my desktop - but they're massive (over 3GB each!) In fact they account for over 75% of all the data on the laptop.

Is there any way to ditch these massive pagefiles and just use a small one, like on my desktop machine?
