Apparently my great governor Rick Perry has announced that Texas is going to spend 5 million dollars implementing WEB CAMERAS along a 1000 mile stretch of Texas borders. These web cams will be publicly accessible so you or I can monitor them and report to the proper agency when you see someone trying to cross.

I don't know if this is pure genius or pure craziness. I think it makes more sense than building a wall people can walk around, though.

Well...I would assume that technically they will save money from having a whole lot of people patrolling...so that might be good ;)

Do you have a link to the full article, or was that heard from the TV?

This is not the original article I read on it, but I could not find my link to that one.

I did find this one though, which does not seem to like the idea:

I think its ridiculous. Turning us all into big brother? Come on. He should employ people if he wants them to grass but I'm not gonna do it.

who's to say that anyone will be watching all of them at any point in time anyway?
Lame...

Yeah you'd have to be pretty bored to actually watch that stuff. and imagine the prank calls/emails reporting people...as if researching reports from people is not goign to take up wasted time and money. Its a stupid idea.

Well "poor" government, you'll have to make choices as US Citizens :/ If (A) You mention that illegal immigrants are all of control, then (B) You'll need to find a way to fix it...so if cameras are not good enough, what else?

You know, sadly I think there might be quite a a few nosey people who would sit and watch, thinking it was their "duty" as citizens or something like that. It depends too if they will have enough manpower to deal with the reports that come in. Not sure this is a good allocation of funds really - but that's just me

I'd probably actually watch if I was bored. There's probably a bunch of people who'd even watch a cheer the immigrants on. hah.

I just had a thought about this... What if one of these vigilante groups used these cameras so they could tell their members where to go?

That would not be a good scenario.

Well that could be possible, however I would think unless they were really close by, there's no way the vigilantes would get there in time - unless the said immigrant is really slow.

True that...I wonder if they've thought of it that way. Either way, i still say it's a ridiculous idea but somewhat entertaining.
