converting audio to dvd

i have cool audio and have figured out how to copy from tape to dvd but i need to know in what format should i save the files in i want to use the most compact form but with best compatibility with other audio players yo suggestions will be welcome

To retain the quality, you should convert it to .AC3. However, .MP3 should be fine.

So, what did you end up doing and which software did you use?

i use audio editor gold and saved it as mp3 no roblem thanks for the help though.
