I just recently bought a Volcano 7+ a few days ago, but 12 hours before it arived i blew my XP1600+ douh! So i had to bung in my Duron, however it's not quite what i expected as The Duron 800 is running @ 1024Mhz (128FSB) @ 45~51*C (Low) fan speed, (Med) 40~49*C (high) 39~46*C. Seems high considering the case is open & have a 80mm 1900rpm (Suck) front fan & a 3400rpm (Blow) back fan :( Also i am using ArticSilver 3.

Any ideas?

if ya got the case open no fans exept the cpu fan do any good. in an open case, no constructed airflow can occur, even if ya theoretically put the fans in the right position, or do ya think the air stays in there because its so funny. and, no insulting, nobody knows if ya use the AS3 in the right way. adn one more thing left, the duron is built using 18 micrometer technology, so he likes getting hot when overclocking. tell us what heatsink-fan u was usin previously, and the temps please. ya also gotta know that the AS3 needs about 48 hours for the tiny silver parts to settle in the right position, so ya will get "real" temps 2 days after installing the HSF. ;)

Before i had a GlobalWin FOP 38 (7000rpm) & got around 43*C
Whats the right & whats the wrong way of using AS?

the right way is to apply a thin, as thin as possible, layers on both cpu and hsf, and then, wait 72(sorry, wrong in first post) hours for the small silver particles to settle in the small groves (ya can use ya pc during this period, but the temps may occur to fall a little bit in the first 72 hours. look up the users guide @ http://www.articsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm

The V7+ should perform quite well. I did a review on it and I was quite happy with it. Make sure that the speed is set to high.

aoC_PRoZaK
04-15-2002, 04:37 AM
is it noisy on high speed? i mean my relation to noisy is a bit krippled, since my cpu fan is 'bout 50 db, but i mean can ya hear the hdd workin when the fan is set to high? i cannot hear mine ;D

XDiGiTaLX
04-15-2002, 06:39 AM
any thermal paste you put it as thin as you can right and only on da core?

aoC_PRoZaK
04-15-2002, 08:09 AM
some say only core or hsf, some say both, i only perform it on the hsf cuz it is the easiest way and ya can be assured to get all the core covered

Dazz
04-15-2002, 01:22 PM
How i do it is place a small bit on the CPU core then get the HSF & place it on top & see how much has been covered :) The temp has dropped about 2*C or so now. As i killed my XP1600 i was going to get another but i think i will be better off getting the Tbred & maybe a A7N333 :)

04-15-2002, 02:19 PM
well, 2 degrees celsius is something bro, i know guys who ripp their asses off for half of that :o

this happens when i open up my room window, sit in front of the rig all night and freeze me butt off. 8) (this happened with my thunderbird 1000@1197 with the 38mmx60mm delta fan on 7 volts

I am going to need some alcohol cleaning before i can do anything, i guess the temp an't to bad till i get a tbread. Any idea that speeds they will be coming out it i.e 1800+ etc?

Cheers.

I think Atlon XP 2100+ is available

Dazz
04-18-2002, 07:02 AM
Alittle out of my price range i heard the XP2100+ is a nightmare to unlock, they might do the same for the TB also

thats the reason why i am considering buying a P IV system ::)

Smoked1
04-18-2002, 11:55 AM
Ah yes the P-4. If AMD keeps this up they are gona get themselves all screwed up.

Dazz
04-18-2002, 01:13 PM
As well as they run alot cooler :) but thats all i will give Intel :p

I don't like having to put glue on my spu to overclock it. GRR

aoC_PRoZaK
04-18-2002, 07:30 PM
nah, thats not the main reason, the main reason for P IV is that ya can raise the fsb up to heavenly frequences and overclock them 1000 or more with very easy voltage mod and decent cooling ;D :o 8)

i like amd best too, but i can't be without havin a try on the P4

Smoked1

I have heard of the P-4 going to 3GHz

Dazz
04-21-2002, 03:38 PM
Hmm 3Ghz P4 or 2Ghz XP?

Smoked1
04-21-2002, 04:06 PM
I would still like to see the benchmarks of maxed out P-4 and a maxed out Athlon XP. MHx SHMEGAHRz

Dazz
04-21-2002, 04:26 PM
The P4 would be the winner sadly as it will have an amazingly fast FSB & memory & would have around 1GHz lead bee in mind that the XP would have to be 2.3GHz or so to be tie with it :)

aoC_PRoZaK
04-21-2002, 05:38 PM
muhahahahahahaha, ill kick ass do damn that it will hurt in ya lungs, muahahahahahahhahaa ;D 8) (btw, dazz, what happened to ya fan, any gettin better?)

I am waiting for the new case to come in and I'll take it from there. I want to put together the system of VoidedWarranty.com. It's gona have the Voided Warranty on it and everything. Maybe even hire a air brush guy to do the work for me.

Dazz
04-21-2002, 06:03 PM
It's still running pretty much the same as before except a 2C diffrence. One things for sure this is my last HSF next time it's going to me water cooling

04-22-2002, 01:05 AM
I don't understand it. ::)

Dazz
04-22-2002, 06:05 AM
I think it's poor cerulation as the front fan just seems to cool the HD's PCI card but can't get to the HSF :( may me a better layout case will do :) Any idea which to get that has a good price :)

aoC_PRoZaK
04-22-2002, 10:56 AM
how bout a side blowhole ;)

Dazz
04-22-2002, 11:12 AM
It would be hard with out a case lid :D
That reminds me i wonder if i should change them round a 1900rpm taking the heat out with the 3400rpm bring in cool air?

Smoked1
04-22-2002, 09:25 PM
I have found that it is very important to have fans sucking air out near where the CPU is. This allows the fan to blow colder ait through the HeatSink. Basicly make sure that you have fans sucking air out of the back of you case.

Dazz
04-23-2002, 04:21 AM
Yeah @ the moment i have the 3400rpm fan doing that but the 1900 one barelt makes a breaze lol i did have an other 3400rpm at the front but it made too much noise for me :( also it didn't seem to of done much

aoC_PRoZaK
04-23-2002, 12:41 PM
if ya don't use a case lid the fans won't do anything, you cant get any controlled airflow in an open case :P

Dazz
04-23-2002, 12:44 PM
Ah............

aoC_PRoZaK
04-23-2002, 01:08 PM
trust me, u must think the case as an air channel, but to get the air go the way ya want it, ya must have the case closed and no air may go in or out @ other holes than the fans

Dazz
04-23-2002, 01:14 PM
It got hotter, around 2~3*C
Hmm i might try removing the PCI fan & change over the case fans.

Smoked1
04-23-2002, 09:09 PM
Try running the CPU at stock speeds and mess with the fans making sure that you have about the sane anount of air going in as you do going out. Then overclock it one step at a time till its at a speed that has good temps

Dazz
04-24-2002, 12:35 PM
It seems to be the weather that's seriously affecting my temperature :( @ 3000rpm, 49*C 5000rpm 47*C 6000 45~46*C

Smoked1
04-24-2002, 01:09 PM
That can be a problem. Turn on the AC

Dazz
04-24-2002, 01:22 PM
Clocked it down to 800Mhz just a 1~2*C diffrence.
I now got a house hold fan blowing into the case currently the CPU temp an't buged, but the board has, i have never seen the board go past 30 b4 but it was hitting 33 lately, it's now 29*C

44*C @ 5000rpm
43*C @ 6000rpm

OK this is confusing as hell, i now have the fan right over the HSF & still no diffrence in temp! grrrrr

aoC_PRoZaK
04-24-2002, 02:11 PM
hmm, seems weird ::)

Dazz
04-24-2002, 04:34 PM
I decided to clean up the CPU & add a very small layer of AC3 & mixed AC3 into the HSF, so far it has done nothing

Dazz
04-24-2002, 07:28 PM
Yeah i guess, i now past careing, so long as i stays below 60*C :) after all doesn' AMD's retail fan & CPU run @ 70*C?

aoC_PRoZaK
04-24-2002, 07:35 PM
mine has an imprint on the DIE where the max temp is defined with 95°C, but i don't like any of my rigs going over 50°C, just don'T like it

XDiGiTaLX
04-24-2002, 07:39 PM

Hey guys, i changed the case fans over & it has improved my temp :) with the faster fan blowing air in the board's temp as me reduced 6*C & the CPU has been reduced by 2~3*C.
