Hey guys,
its been a while since i posted, but i have another NOOB IDEA. Everyone, feel free to use this idea if u want (if it doesnt sound stupid). SPAMI was lookin around my room and thinking "jeez, people are modding everything these days, what can i think of that would be unique?" weeeeeell...i glanced over at my NES console and thought "wow, thats old and plain" thats when the light bulb went off. MOD THE NES! Anyone have any ideas on how it should be modded? I have some ideas but i wanna hear what you guys think.

A window, and a small cold cathode inside. Paint it first.

Don't just make it look diffrent make it play diffrent. SPAMMake it portable. SPAMI read about a guy makin' Atari 2600's into hand helds. SPAMI thind a portable NES is possible and it would still kick the dog shit out of GayBoy Advance.

With something like that, there is the whole power situation you have to deal with. And isn't Gameboy Advanced based on NES? I'm not for sure at all, just seen something like that on commercials, I think. But that would be neat. A portable with TV-OUT!!!

Come to think of it, one thing I haven't seen modded is a printer, except for fan mods (oh yaayyy).

A modded Game cube would be even better. S-video out so that you could just plug it in to a TV.

This whole topic was a little bit of what i was thinking of doing with my PS2. SPAMFor all of the PS2 players out there...you know how there is that highly visible fan in the back of the PS2, it would look very appealing to the eye if I were too strap some blue leds on the fan..being that blue and black is the overall colors of the unit. SPAMEven if it is in the back, when the lights go off, say at night, it will look awesome lighting up the wall behind it (in my case), playing Metal of Honor. SPAMAs for the NES, the first thing that i would mod would have to be those boring colors, so a paint job would have to be called upon. SPAMAlthough, the gamecube's purple isnt exactly the "fitting" color for that active male gamer, unless they are down with purple..... :-/ (yeah i know they got black out too..)

at first, i was pissed that i got the indigo gamecube...but then i thought about this...does anyone here look at their console as they are playing a game? now u might be wondering "then why the hell do u wanna mod the nes." my answer is simple, it hasnt been done..

i was so bored yesterday. i took my ol 133 and took every piece outta that thing. it was pretty cool cuz i always thoght "how the hell do u get the hard drive and cd drive out if i cant see those other 2 screws" so i ended up stumbling upon the fact that you can take off the front panel of the computer and then u can pull out the bays and release the harddrive bay. it was pretty cool. hey smoked, remember u told me i can take the face plates off the cdrom? well i actually did that too! the cdrom didnt even look like the cdrom. one question tho...after i put it back together and turned the comp on, i got a message that the floppy failed, but then the comp booted normally. whats wrong with it?

Floopy cables can be put in upside down. SPAMIf your floppy drive light stays on all the time you got the cable reversed. SPAMIt may still read but it will destroy the boot sector. SPAMOtherwise make sure the drive works at all. SPAMSometimes after it shows a problem once the problem stays but since it didn't change you won't see another error until something else changes. SPAMIf you can read floopy's and your light doesn't stay on all the time you'll be fine.

ahh, well i just opened the thing up again. in the bios (before i opened it up), i noticed that i had the HD plugged into the secondary ide and the cdrom into the primary. maybe that had something to do with it? so, anyway, i opened the sucker up. i switched the ide for the hd and cdrom, then i unplugged the floppy and hooked it back up. now everything works fine. what did u mean by floppy cables reversed?

Grinnin Reaper
07-24-2002, 07:45 PM
Most floppy cables don't have a key so the plug can be rotated 180 degree's (or upside down) and still be inserted. SPAMEven some IDE cable's can be turned and insterted if they don't have a bump or key on them. SPAMThat's why you always have to make sure pin 1 goes to pin 1. SPAMRed stripe on the cable marks pin 1 side of the connector SPAMand pin one will be marked on the motherboard with a 1 next to the IDE connector. SPAMHope I didn't confuse ya.

Yup, backwards cables man

but it could be that ya used the wrong of the two plugs if ya have a two plugged cable.for preventing of having to unscrew the whole thing some bioses haven an option called swap floppy drives. i always try that first. can save a lotta time when working with old puters. ;)

IT's very possible. You could mod a Game Gear battery pack inside the NES and use a GCN screen w/ batt pack and use resistors to throttle the Game Gear batt pack to 6 volts and put in a switch to swap between batt and wall current
