I have the pleasure of owning this particular drive and I would have to say that I absolutely love it!  Ever since I've had my 8X Plextor burner I have hardly made any coasters.  Of course, the first few were my fault since I had no idea of what I was doing...hehehe.  :P Once I knew what to do I haven't made a coaster yet.  Kick in the burnproof technology in the Plextor drives (12X and up), and you can go off and do other things while the burner burns in the background.

All in all, I would get a Plextor any day!

Sorry to sound like a marketing agent for Plextor but it is the truth...

Well what you say is the truth though - not many other drives allow you to play quake3 or unreal tourney while burning a perfect disk - in 5 minutes.

I have always loved Plextors line of cd-burners.  I am very impresses with my Plextor 4x burner.  Soon I will be getting the Plextor 24x burner and I will write up a nice review to compare it to the rest.

I'm thinking about buying a new burner (since the one I have can't make an exact copy of CD's) and I've been looking at Plextor- but there's a Sony 16X10X40 (Model CRX1611E) that sells for half the price! I looked it up, and it has buffer-underrun technology. I doubt, however, that it's as good as Plextor's

Is this the MikeJ I know?

Anyway - sony makes damn good drives also - I'm sure http://www.cdrlabs.com has some reviews of their products.

If it's half the price give it a try - most burnproof is the same anyway - it's just each company has it's own name for the technology.
