Looking for some round cables, hopefully without spending a lot of money. SPAMI need two ATA 100 IDE cables and one FDD cable. SPAMAny suggestions as to where the best place is to get these? SPAM
You can get some great looking silver ones at Plycon (http://www.plycon.com/silver.htm) they are kind of expensive though. Directron (http://www.directron.com/cables---adapters-ide---floppy-cables---adapters.h
tml) has good prices on rounded cables. SPAMMake sure you check the pictures because some are split and rounded (black and gray colors) but the red or blue ones look machine made.

How about checking any of the local shops around town? SPAMDo you have any computer magazines that the local folks advertise in? SPAMI'm talking about computer magazines like the one we have here. SPAMThe name is called ComputorEdge (http://www.computoredge.com/sandiego/). I believe this magazine is in publication in Colorado and New Mexico as well. SPAMIt sure would save you some money as far as shipping is concerned and just in case you get a bad cable you won't have to wait for a couple of days to get a replacement. SPAM

I have been checking places like CompUSA and Best Buy. SPAMNo one has even heard of factory rounded cables...can you believe it? SPAMDon't know of any local magazines with computer stuff in them. SPAMDo you mean like the ones you can sometimes find in the entryway to grocery stores...along with auto shopper mags and real estate mags? SPAMI am a bit frustrated with the local scene. SPAMYesterday I went to a huge mall (four stories tall) with a CompUSA, Staples, BestBuy, etc. in them. SPAMNo one had even heard of rounded cables. SPAMthought once I got out of Lakehurst/Toms River areas that surely they would have heard of this stuff. SPAMMarketPro won't have another show in our area until fall. SPAMMaybe then. SPAMthanks for the info and the SPAMsuggestions though...guess I 'll keep looking.

kfan: SPAMThanks for the info. SPAMDirectron seems like a pretty good site. SPAMIf you hear of any other sites that might fit the bill, please let me know.

Sorry, I didn't quite make the term "local shops around town" clearer. SPAMI didn't mean the big retail stores like CompUSA or BestBuy. SPAMAlthough they're pretty nice, most of the staff that I have encountered in regards to computer info basically don't know sh*t...excuse my French there. :) Yes, that is a bit of animosity in that remark and for good reason too. SPAMThat'll be another story unto itself. SPAMAnyway, what I meant by that term is the local mom and pop shops there. SPAMI guess there isn't much mom and pop local computer stores there?

There are a few "mom and pop" stores around, but mostly just hole in the wall places. SPAMI will nose around and see what I can find out. SPAMSo far most people who I ask just look at me as if I were on planet zanzabar. SPAMKnow what I mean? SPAMI tell them that factory rounded cables have been out for several months and they look at me like I have rocks in my head. SPAMI am not impressed at all by the big store people.
One more question. SPAMHave you heard anything or seen anything written on "crosstalk" provided by rounded cables?

Hahaha! I know EXACTLY what you mean. I was in CompUSA this weekend and I asked some guys about the rounded cables. SPAMNone of them knew what I was talking about and they had this expression on their face wondering what I was smoking or what I was on! I personally haven't had any experience with the rounded cables but I've found some articles on crosstalk issues for you. SPAMThey're listed below...
http://www.lostuniverse.org/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=23
This one has some pretty cheap ones.
http://www.laferle.com/adapters/acc.htm
Very good article on them.

That should keep you busy for a while. SPAMIf you need more info you can always go to google.com and do a search for "rounded cables and crosstalk." SPAMThat's how I found these articles.

Hulaboy...thanks for the great info. SPAMI have read the articles already. SPAMI had seen the second one before and was disappointed when the guy stopped producing fan adapters.
That reminds me...I wanted to ask you about fan adapters. SPAMHave you ever had any experience with them? SPAMI have been hearing some strange sounds...don't know if it is my computer or not, so I took the side off. SPAMMan...I can hardly hear myself think. SPAMI have a Vantec heat sink with a Delta Black Label fan on it (6800 rpm). SPAMAny suggestions for keeping my system cool (hardly ever goes much about 85-87 degrees F now), but reducing the deafening noise??? SPAMI have thought about fan adapters (60-80mm), but have been dragging my feet. SPAMDon't want to lose cooling capability, but I'm going deaf...even with the computer closed up. SPAM

I'm sort of in the same boat as you're in when it comes to internal fans. SPAMI SPAMhave a lot of fans in my case right now and I need to eliminate some of them. SPAMThey're noisy critters. I'd like to replace a couple of key fans with more powerful but quieter fans too. SPAMSo, I'll let you know if I find some decent ones. :)

My wife just had surgery today...hospital is about an hour away. SPAMI just got home...midnight...but I had to get on here for at least a few minutes to see if you had responded. SPAMThanks for responding so quickly. SPAMI will be interested in reading about what you have found out regarding fans. SPAMI may break down and buy rounded cables and perhaps a 60mm to 80mm fan adapter with a good 80mm fan (Papst, Sanyo Denki, or ???). SPAMLet me know what you find out. SPAMLater....

Just female stuff. SPAMHad a cyst on her uterus about the size of a softball. SPAMIt had been giving her quite a bit of pain. SPAMAll looks well and the doctors are very positive. SPAMWhat a relief! SPAMYou just never know what they may find when SPAMthey get in there and start poking around. SPAMHopefully she will be able to come home tomorrow. SPAMBut then I get to do the husbandly thing and take care of her. SPAMThe kids are gone on a trip...be back this weekend and my wife's mother will come next week to help out. SPAMAll in all, it is working out to be quite a blessing, all things considered. SPAMThanks for the concern.

Why not make em yourself?
Ive done this many times---no cutting of the cable involved...
Let your cable sit in the sun then fold it longwise about 3-4 times and wrap it with spiralwrap to hold it, SPAM you can get it at your local autoparts store, or use baby zipties or even electrical tape, I use those Plycon braided steel covered cables with my Clearcase, they just look REAL cool! (VERY expensive tho)
