Heres the scoop, new ABIT KT7A motherboard, AMD Athlon 900, 256 legs of RAM, ASUS 7100 GeForce2, win98 se, aopen case (approved for amd) creative audigy sound card, and SMC pci network card.
This PC will lock at random with no warning. sometimes as ssoon as you get into windows, sometimes it can be running for 20 minutes or more.
please help, i tried all the norm of uninstalling/re-installing hardware and software, switched devices around...
anyone else experience this??
thanks in advance for your help.

My mobo came with a temp and voltage monitoring utility you had to install seperatly. SPAMSee if your CD that came with it includes such a thing (mine was a FIC, but other manufactures include similar software packages). SPAMIf your processor is getting to hot due to inaduquate cooling beit it heatsink, fan, or poor contact between processor and heatsink it could also SPAMcause thes problems. SPAMAlso make sure all your jumper settings are right. SPAMYou may be inadvertantly overclocking with an incorrect jumper setting although this would show up as execess heat as well. SPAMAlso just look at your processor fan and see if it is turning and feel the heatsink. SPAMIf it burns you it's either to small or your fan is. SPAMIf it's not even warm you probably have poor contact between your processor and heatsink. SPAMAlso look up some independant reveiw's of your MotherBoard and see if anyone reported any stability issues like you are experrincing.

What do you mean locks?
restarting at random at all? that is what my Abit KT7A-Raid used to do. I moved it to another power outlet, in a completely different room, and it has been fine except for a few times.
