Facts:
Dell Inspiron 8000 (internal modem)
Win2000 OS

When trying to use a dial up connx I receive the following error msg:

"Error 797: The connx failed because the modem (or other connecting device) was not found."

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the LT Winmodem; Installed the Actiontec modem from microsoft's windows update site; Appears fine in device manager; Phone dialer gives a similar msg. that it cannot dial out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,
Darrin

Error 797 means A connection to the remote computer could not be established because the modem was not found or was busy.

I have windows 2000 and sometimes when I disconnect wrong it thinks that the modem is still in use. SPAMTry rebooting it and connecting once. SPAMIf that does not work try reinstalling dial-up networking.

One thing, does it even pick up the phone line? SPAMIf not make sure that it is connected to the correct port on the modem. SPAMAlso, your modem could have been damaged by lighting. SPAMError 797 is a hint to that. SPAMAhh one more thing, hook a phone up to the phone port in the back of the modem. SPAMIf you do not get a dial tone your modem is shot or the phone line is not connected correctly to the modem.

Try the above and then get back to me.

Good Luck
