Im running an old MSI 6167 751 mobo with an athlon 600@700, 256 mb pc-100 ram

When i run powerstrip to change it to 2x AGP (why does it always run at 1x?!!!!!!!!!) the damn thing locks up within 10 minutes of surfing.

RIGHT NOW I haven't opened it and i been on for an hour without lockups.

When i try to turn off v-sync for direct 3d/ open GL, i get lots of artifacts really quick than it freezes(as if overheated)

-Another problem is.... on the box it says nothing about AGP 2.0 but when i read the site it says AGP 2.0 standard (AND I HAVE 1.0) plus it works, which makes me even more confused

Also, i have a few minor questions tech wise:
The card has vertex shaders but no pixel shaders, what do I lose in that? I thought they were cooperatively..

Accuview Anti-aliasing works only in Direct 3D?
I only have that option at "4xs(D3D)"

2x Quincunx, 4x , 4xs(D3D)

Also, is it better to run that or quincunx? I usually play at 800x600x32 or 1024x768x32

thanks!

go into your directx diagnostic (start -> run -> type "dxdiag") and go to your display tab. if AGP texture acceration is enabled, disable it.

The whole fact is...some newer 2X/4X compatable video cards have problems on 2X agp ports. Disabling AGP texture acceleration has been known to be a fix.

If it locks up right after you disable it, restart the system

one downside, is your framerates will be lower with agp tex accel disabled SPAM:(

and umm, the GeForce 2 series does not have hardware pixel shaders

There is AGP 1/2/4x option in BIOS to set, and default on older boards was usually 1x. What's powerstrip SPAM???

If it freezes recently it can be simply overheated; check if card has enough space for air circulation around it. If not try to move cards installed close to AGP.

Finally was all this happening with your old VGA card, and have you uninstalled previous driver/tools properly ?

Good luck

Powerstrip is a program for nvidia cards to modify certain settings.

Yeah it could be a heat issue if it's a 2d freeze. But frankly, I've ran into the 2x agp port problems more then once.

It only freezes soon after i open powerstrip, at least so far.
I completely uninstalled all my old graphics drivers, (I had a Matrox G400 Max) which by default ran at agp 2x..

I think the recent powerstrip is incompatible-it doesn't say anywhere about a "geforce 4"
only 3

oh my bad I thought you said GF2 MX. my bad

ehhhh, just because it works on a lesser agp standard does not mean it will work right.

yeah also you might wanna make the appropriate settings in your mobo's BIOS
