Using Win98SE. SPAMI think I killed my CDRom Drivers. SPAMI see the CD and can do DIR on D:\ in DOS. SPAMIt doesn't show in "My Computer" display. SPAMIt is in System Properties though. SPAMI've tried messing with VIA MultiMedia Drivers and MultiMedia drivers to know avail. SPAMThis started after downloading new VIA Drivers for the EP-8KTA3L+ and VIA KT133A AGP set. SPAMI had to "REM" the VIAUDIO.COM file in the Autoexec because it was an error condition and halted the boot-up. SPAMI get either an error msg saying this is not a Windows 32 program, or Memory too small to execute. SPAMAnyone out there have an idea. SPAMThanks, Don

If all was working properly prior to updating the VIA drivers, I would uninstall them and step back to the working version of the drivers.
Otherwise try re-installing the VIA drivers again maybe they were hosed with the last install.
Definately a driver issue with your controller.
Is there anything splatted in the Device Manager? Or is there anything under Other Devices? Splatted is a yellow excalmation point FYI.
If you can see cdrom from DOS booting from C:/ that's because 1) you have dual boot 2) you have your autoexec + config files modified (and that's the wrong thing to do for W98)
Basically you don't need autoexec + config files for W98, and definitely not for VIA sound ( if you dont' run any creapy DOS applications ).
Try to disable these files from | Start | > | Run | > msconfig.
Check what programs are loaded at startup too, and try to disable anything related to VIA sound.
(you can easily undo the changes)
This is also going to speed the startup. Then, indeed SPAMcheck for yellow marks in system properties (WinKey+Pause)
'Memory too small to execute' probably caused by the same reason
Good luck

Thanks for the responses. SPAMI did reload drivers as suggested and got my CDRom back and can play CD music, read Disks, etc. SPAMThanks. SPAMAs to second reply (Chef), I have an Autoexec in Dosstart and a Config on C:\. SPAMI tried playing with both. SPAMI eliminated path and viaudio call in Autoexec and I still am alive. SPAMMessing with MSCDEX driver kills the system and I have to go in with Safemode and redo Mscdex. SPAMI am using an older MSCDEX, Is there a specific newer driver that is better?. SPAMI have copies of OAKCDROM.SYS,MTMCDAI.SYS, IDE.SYS and all seem to work the same though number of bytes varies. Using a PC Analyzer, I get an error that my CD isn't there, so I believe Chef's comment may be correct. SPAMNow, how to fix. SPAMThanks, Don SPAM
Again, use msconfig utility to temporary disable startup files(autoexec+config). See what it does.
It's NOT good to use DOS CDROM drivers with W98, this leads to probs SPAM;D
Cheers
