At least that's wha I think I did. SPAMI was doing my monthly format (at least it seems monthly I seem to do it often) and I decided to wipe my bios to rid myself of the d@mn bios password I set up months ago and regretted ever since. SPAMErase the old bios everything is running fine. SPAMEnter setup and change all my settings at one time and save them, computer hangs and won't reboot. SPAMHit reset switch and computer just sets there and looks at me. SPAMPower on - power off again I get the look from my computer you get from a 2-year old when explaining astro-physics SPAM:P . SPAMReset bios try again same results. SPAMReset bios one more time and make two changes save and exit, SPAMrepeat till all changes made. SPAMWorks fine no more problems. SPAMJust weird not to much of a problem just never heard you could only make so many changes and you had to save before continuing. SPAMAnyone else ever ran into this or am I crazy (please dont' respond to the crazy part. SPAMWhat exactly is goin' on here. SPAMIt's worked fine ever since.
what did you mean by "erase my BIOS", like used clear cmos jumper to reset ? or maybe some nasty app like killcmos ;)

No I was using jumpers to reset and clear the cmos. SPAMI like doing things the physical way when I can. SPAMLarge hammers also work well to clear bios but I have a low sucess rate at recovery. SPAM;D
static electricity could make temporary damage.
actually it rarely happens, although I remember one case with memory chip.
Were you thinking to upgrade it ?
Cheers

Works fine now not a problem at all. SPAMJust locked up every time I made all my bios changes. SPAMLike I said it I made them two or three at a time didn't even hint at trouble. SPAMJust weird that's all. SPAMWorkin' fine now. SPAMBTW it's only 6 months old it's a FIC AZ11EA board. SPAMIt's allways been a little finicky. SPAMJust one more thing on the list. SPAMSo far it's behaving allright. SPAMKnock on Wood.

i know what you are talking about, it happened to me when i started to enable features that my other hardware didn't support, like for example making a 2x agp card run at 4x (but that doesn't crash it, you just overheat you vid card. he he he). if you enabled memory or bios caching, etc., that spells freezes, no windows OS required.
one time though, as i was upgrading my bios, the power went out and it got erased. that was on my Abit KT7A-RAID, so i freaked. my face boiled but then i started my computer and luckily, there is one part of the bios that you cant erase in case of accidents like that, that allows you to install the bios software. since then i practically worshipped Abit. it is superfast too.

Yhea I can understand it freezing if you make some wrong chages. SPAMBut I ended up making all the exact same changes and it worked but I could only do so many at a time. SPAMIf I did them all at once it locked up. SPAMDo 'em a few at a time and it works fine. SPAMSame settings and everything. SPAMAlso here's a new problem. SPAMMy IDE cable was to short to route be routed to the drives where I wanted to put them so I reversed the cable. SPAMDidn't see any drives at all on that controller. SPAMUnplug one drive and it's seen fine. SPAMPlug it back in and unplug the other and that one can be seen. SPAMJust couldn't see both drives at the same time. SPAMTried both connectors with same results. SPAMNever would see both drives at the same time and BIOS creeped along while loading. SPAMTruned the cable around and it loaded fine. SPAMSeen both drives and benchmarks like a bad-@$$. SPAMHad to move drives around so the cable would fit but I got it. SPAMStill running the FIC AZ11EA mobo, and on the primary chain (the one giving me grief) I had a maxtor 40 gig ata 100 drive and slave was a ASUS 16x DVD ROM at ata 100. SPAMBoth work fine now I just can't run the cable backwards. SPAMI thought IDE cables were reversible but evediently not or I got more trouble than I know about. SPAMI know you can't reverse floppy cables if you have two drives because of the inverted wires, does IDE cable's have something like that to??

yeah, i most newer cables that come with mobo's are not reversible, but i know older cables are. weird. but those non-reversible cables run faster.
try these cables sometime for more efficient case cooling as they are round and not like sails on a sailboat...www.frozencpu.com. they are good for a lot of case cooling stuff.

gotta have a look at those cables http://www.ioss.com.tw/web/English/RD3Gladiator.html ;D
to the bios stuff, fic boards are often stupid, i own a pa2005 and it like being stoopid. ya ever seen an abit board boot directly from floppy and autostarting awdflash.exe? that is great fun. if ya are afraid that somethng bad could happen to ya bios. get this device: http://voidedwarranty.netfirms.com/reviews/15/index.htm 8)
PS: you didn't crash the BIOS itself with saving the stuff, cause the stuff is saved in the cmos and the cmos isn't located on or in the bios chip itself

Hey that BIOS savior looks cool as hell, but what did you mean by con- swith-cord too short for bay mounting, has to be modded, since when was modding a con. SPAMUnless you just don't like being forced to. SPAMThanks for the link. By the way I think I know what you meanby I didn't crash the BIOS. SPAMNow I think I just hosed the CMOS settings it was writing my changes to and that's why I had to clear my CMOS to get my computer working again. Does that sound right ???

ya, right, the cmos is not located in the bios chip and cannot be hosed by software, only the settings can be hosed, and clearing the CMOS is always fun (if ya own the rd2 pc geier and do not need to open the case. but i'll write a guide for a clear cmos swich that can be bay mounted. isn't difficult. to tha cord, it's far too short! half a meter simply isn' enuff for a case as big as mine 8)
