i was wondering what is the difference between unbuffered ram and buffered and is the a big difference

now to add my own flava, buffered (aka registered) Ram is used mosly in servers and high end workstations

performance-wise, unbuffered ram doesnt transfer it as smoothly, and comes up with errors more. that is because buffers store date while other data is being transferred and sends it all at more consistent rates.
