Netsmog forum Users,

I recently purchased a Swiftech MCXC370 Copper HSF and I am going to use it to replace the old OEM HSF that came pre-mounted to the Intel Coppermine Pentium III 1GHz processor on my mobo.

After I completed the removal of the OEM HSF I noticed that there was some compound left behind on the processor core from the compound that was applied previously. SPAMThis was expected.

The nature of this post is reguarding the removal of the compound on the processor core. SPAMHow should I go about doing this to avoid any damage to the chip? SPAMPlease keep in mind that there is quite a bit of compound present.

Thx N Adv.

Okay here a link to some instruction for a compound called arctic silver. SPAMhttp://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm SPAMEven if you're using something else the instructions are still the same. SPAMStep 4 deals with prep and cleaning. SPAMBy the way if you have some time to grab some of this stuff before you put it together I'ld recommend it. SPAMI've heard (but not personally experinced) of temp. drops of a few degree's Celsius by using this stuff. SPAMIt's supposed to be the best. SPAMGood luck with change out. SPAM

Good heat sink compound is important. SPAMA good review here: http://www.modthebox.com/reviews35_1.html SPAMThat Swiftech is a fine cooler. SPAMI like the way it attaches to the motherboard too, can't bounce a screwdriver off the motherboard with a Swiftech! ;) SPAMI use alcohol to clean with.
