There's different versions of the SoundBlaster Audigy, just like there were with the SoundBlaster Live! 5.1. The SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum comes with a white, internal drive bay bus for things like "Comprehensive connectors including Optical I/O, SPDIF I/O, MIDI I/O, AUX-IN, Mic IN and SB1394 provide extensive connectivity to digital and analog, PC and CE devices."

The SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum EX has an external box which is black, which includes connectors, "Including Optical I/O, SPDIF I/O, MIDI I/O, AUX-IN, Mic IN and SB1394 provide extensive connectivity to digital and analog, PC and CE devices."

Basically they're the same, iirc, except black/white, and internal/external. Personally, I'd want black, internal.

The Sound Blaster Extigy is completely external, the sound card and all while the sound card for the Audigy is internal. The Extigy connects via USB.

About making a black internal Audigy, do you mod the bl. external and put it inside the box, or do you paint the wh. internal?!

i'd say go with the moded external audigy platnium ex. SPAMit seems much more powerful if you want to create music, and mix stuff (sounds like fun, i've been wanting to get back into music). SPAMthe extigy is less powerful than the audigy it seems, but being completley external and usb it kills any internal computer noise. SPAMa huge plus, but it doesnt have the capabilities that the audigy platinum ex has.

Just thought I'd post here with some prices.

-The SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum (white, internal) can be had for approximately $163 shipped.

-The SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum eX (black, external) is a bit more hefty, at $204 shipped.

-The SoundBlaster Extigy (USB) starts around $127 shipped.

I was considering getting a SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum (white, internal), because I'd really love the LiveDrive w/ IR, but for $163 I think I can live without it...for a while at least.

The Audigy Platinum and Platinum eX are actually exactly the same except for the eX connectivity unit being external and black. Performance and features are exactly the same. I'd just go with which ever is cheaper at the time (most likely the internal).

Aemon_: The Extigy doesn't eliminate those sounds coming from inside your computer, those are made by the pc speaker which has nothing to do with the sound card. If you want to disconnect it, you can ask me if you want. You just have to pull a plug.

actually, an internal soundcard does affect output. SPAMi record mp3s to my minidisc player (RIP, it busted 2 days ago SPAM:( ) and there is a background noise. SPAMthats why sony made an external USB "adapter" basically a sound device that takes place of your sound card for recording purposes, and there is no background noise. SPAMi dont mean noise from fans and stuff, cause its a direct line connection, but electronic interference type noises do come through in recording.

and also, if you read the summary on creative's website, the platinum and platinum ex are different. SPAMand they come with completley different software bundles. the ex comes with alot of recording software. SPAMbut then, you could just buy SB live and download SoundForge, or Cakewalk and do the same thing.

EDIT: Sorry vee_ess, you are right. i was reading the comparison wrong. SPAMsorry man. SPAMyeah, i'd go for the cheaper one, even though its too expensive as well.

and lookie what i found for your internal audigy platinum that is white..a black replacement face. SPAM

On a somewhat unrelated note, I think it's funny that it costs $150 for the LiveDrive itself (for Audigy), and $200 for the card + LiveDrive...lol, $50 for the card, even though it's retailing for $100 on the site.

Nice find though, with the replacement faceplate.
