I figure it's already been done. But I'm gonna try to buy a friends busted scanner. Seems to me that the super bright white light inside would just make one heluva light source. Anyone seen it done? Know much about them. Seems to me it's just a 12 volt super thin long a$$ bulb. Cheap mod if ya got a busted scanner layin' round.

Well I secured the scanner it seems. If I get to do it would ya'll like me to do an article? I'm tryin to get a friend bring a dig. camera and hopefully if all goes well I'm goin to do a window mod. Window mod buget = $10 American. Can it be done??? Time will tell that tale.

And the answer would be yes. Yes a scanner light can be used. I had to use a power supply board from the scanner to get it to work. The bulb is not a 5 or 12 volt board. I put a test meter lead and it shot a 1/4 inch blue spark. My cheap meter didn't give an accurate read but I do not believe it to be low voltage dc. Anyway I tested the board input spliced some wires and turned it with high hopes. Right now I am looking inside my case via my home made window job (ended up blowing a full $15 US on the window job). And the case is lit up just about right. I'm a happy man. Ya'll have any questions let me know.
I would like to congratulate GR for coming up with this concepts because i have a 2 or 3 year old scanner layin around that i dont use, and i would like to take the lighting out of that to and use it for the case mod me and vee_ess are working on...thx man! free lighting, who'd ever think!

Can't seem to find the Bulb that U mean in my Microtek Scanmaker. The light are made-up of LEDS. But i've seen scanners with that kind of bulb.

microtek uses a thin strip of light which is not LED
unless maybe in their brand new models they are...

Looks like LED to me...But if U can prove it's not, I'l stand corrected.
I really don't have any idea what it is...I haven't opened the scanner to see if it is a LED or something else. Until U can tell me what it is, I stick to LEDs U'r Evilness. :biggrin:

look, ive opened up my microtek 3600 for like 15 times already
they use CCD sensor light
my dad is right here with me, he worked in microtek for 6 years

charge coupled device, it's not the one that provides the light, its a light receptor lots of it, where's the light emitter?
LED in a different packaging? I'm not sure about it.
