DigiTimes of Taiwan is reporting that AMD plan to launch their new Barton-core AthlonXP during October of this year. On October 7th AMD launch the XP2700+ based on the Thoroughbred core with 256k of L2 cache memory and 333MHz front side bus (FSB). The new Barton core AthlonXP will debut later in the month and will feature the same 0.13 micron manufacture process and 333MHz FSB, but twice the L2 cache, giving 512kB. This will bring it's L2 cache in line with that of the Pentium 4 and will continue AMD's recent pressure on Intel. Two Barton processors are expected to be launched in Q4 of this year, before the new-generation K8 x86-64 ClawHammer processors arrive during 2003. The news is in line with the AMD roadmap published earlier this year.

Intel has a news release stating they are building a new chip.
This chip will be in head to head competition with the Athlon XP processors.
Intel states the new Banias cpu's will be a cpu that performs a lot greater than the posted mhz. Otherwise they will have a name of XX2800 and the chip will actually operate at 2.1ghz.

This is not an exact quote from this release and the response from AMD is not an exact quote either.

AMD states this proves that Intel has delibertly manfactured processors that had to be clocked at a much higher frequency in order to render the same as the XP chips made by AMD.
This story goes on and is somewhat interesting.
Makes a person wonder why Intel would make a processor that renders like a 3.0ghz chip and only runs at 2.5ghz.
AMD has been rating thier cpu's this way for awhile now and has been sucessful in this type of marketing.
I wonder if Intel is trying to hedge into this same type of marketing.
Who knows?

I am saying a small prayer that the 2700 barton core will work with my dragon platinum, it is capable of running a fsb of 333. Man I hope so! I would love to make that one last upgrade for this pc besides the vid card then this one is gonna remain as is until I build my next pc.

Probably not at first. Due to the new core you'll probably have to flash your bios to support the new voltages and clocks

of course

every mobo needs a new bios to be working with new line of CPUs

and as the timeline seems, that soyo 400 is made for Barton except the bios isnt made yet
