OK, a while back, I had some decent spare parts, and a little extra cash, so I built a spare computer. It's been rinning great, up untill now... Here's the story...
A few days ago, I get an old AGP video card. As this computer has some problem displaying graphics(it's the one I said scrambled videos and compressed images) I thought a GF2 was much too powerful, so I stuck this old NumberNine video card in it. Then it would'nt even post, beep, or anything. I stick the GF2 back in, and everything is fine. I figured it was just the video card...however, this morning, the computer does the same thing, and I havn't even opened it or moved it since the videocard trial. I open it up, mess around with it a bit, and it works. Cut it off, then back on, and it won't work. I just go back and forth like this. Finally, I thought I might as well try that old video card again, and it worked fine.
Just now, I cut it off, then back on, and it worked??? Is my MB failing? It isn't but a few months old... oddly enough, if it is dieing, it runs 2K Server perfect once it boots.
Heh...guess you'd like to know some specs...
Biostar MTVKB
Duron 850
128M SD RAM
NumberNine AGP video card
3.2G HD(hehe...as I said, this was only made of spare parts)
40x CD ROM

Is that on your Abit? I have a KT7A also and it did the same thing when I overclocked it.

Check the pwr supply. Most bios' will let you monitor your voltages.
Check to make sure the VCORE, VIO, +12V, and +5V are within specs. If not, you have a problem.

the first thing to look for is the plug from PSU onto the mobo
unplug it
then replug it
once a bad connection had burned the plastic casing of the 12v plug
smoke went up
almost literaly burned my comp
and i had to change a mobo and a PSU for that

I will recommend that you remove and clean, reseat all components. Memory is the most problematic for this type of problems.
You are not giving systems components except the vid card.
Take a can of compressed air, when removed the PCI & AGP slots, blow out any debri that might be down in these slots.
Then replace each component. The best way to diagnos will be to replace each component only that component, and recheck the system after each insertion of the component.
Most times this will tell you which component is causing the problem.

Power Supply is new...but I guess that has just as much a chance to be bad as an old one...
The voltage seems a bit high...but is it too high?
Vcore- 1.68v
3.3v- 3.38v
5v- 5.12v
12v- 12.3v
I'll pop it open and check connectors and such, but it should be clean. The computer is hardly ever used.
And somone was asking about the components...here's a list...
IBM Etherjet 10/100
Uh...and thats it. The soundcard is built in VIA(not even installed), and it's empty other then that. I had a firewire card and analog capture card in it, but I took them out once I had the video problems...

im thinking of the plug
the plug from PSU onto the mobo
thats usualy when connection goes bad if it is bad
otherwise, see what the beeps the mobo is giving you
and find out in ur mobo manual on what it means

I understand, your thinking about the ATX connector on the MB... I checked it out, and it looked fine(both the MB connector and the one from the PS) I did smell anything burning either.
I THINK I might of fixed it, but I can say for sure yet. I have an Indigita iDT-2900A tape drive. I started to install the drivers for 2Kserver, and my computer locked up, and wouldn't cut off(had to hold the power button down for 5seconds...) After getting it off, I cut it on, and got nothing...no beeps, no video, nothing! I disconnected the IDE connection from the tapedrive, and it worked...
Oh well, I hope both computer and tape drive still work, because both are rather valualbe to me...

lol
its funny to read what u said with all those typos :P ;)
but i get what you are trying to say
This may not apply to your system but it is an interesting read.

I had the IWILL KK266+ and the sucker would not boot to windows /w my gf2 under win98. And with Win2k, if it tried to access any other kind of video hardware then standard DDraw, it would freeze (playing a movie, trying to startup a game)
