PDA is short for Personal Digital Assistant
and i think tablet PC is more than an assistant
it will be the next thing for education
and engineers will be able to take computers where they wouldnt usualy take
breaks another barrier of mobile limitations

I agree- I can say, as a student, having a tablet PC would rock my sox off. Seriously, I used a PDA for taking notes but it became a hassle having to switch pages every sentence. I think a tablet PC woudl be a godsend to a guy like me who wants to have his notes on PC. I want one.

I've actually used a prototypical tablet PC at my job. We're working with a developer of a tablet PC on the communications side of it. It's pretty nifty stuff.
Basically, the Tablet PCs will use a modified version of Windows XP (Windows XP Tablet PC), that features enhancements for use of a stylus, mainly. When using the Tablet, one will be able to take notes in their own handwriting (and it'll save as a .bmp, so drawings, charts, etc. can be included). Then, one has the choice of using optical character recognition (OCR) to convert all, or parts, of a document into a normal text document (but because the choice of what parts to convert is available, any drawings, or charts can still be included in the resulting document).
The specs of the tablet PCs are apparently specified by Microsoft, or something like that. From what I recall, the tablets have to be able to go into a sleep mode, with a battery life for like, 72 hours, and be able to resume normal operation in 2 seconds or less. Additionally, they are supposed to have true support for unannounced docking/removal (whereas with normal windows on docked laptops, it was advised to use the "undock" feature). They are also supposed to be able to switch between landscape and portrait display modes without restarting.
The Tablet I used was neat, in the aspect that it featured compatibility with a wireless keyboard and mouse, for extensive typing.
I think it'd be pretty cool to have, but I don't think I'd drop the cash for one right now.
