Hi. I need help. I'm at my wits end here. I have been locking up (mostly on Tribes2, but on a few other games as well)

A few months ago I got my brand spankn' new Gainward GF3 Ti200. At first I've had no problems. Then it started to get lockups. They only happen during games.

At first I thought it was related to my video card sharing irq's with 2 other devices. I then disabled my serial ports, bumping up my NIC to irq3 (S2) and my video card to irq4 (S1)

..and it still had the same problem. Usually playing T2, but sometimes other games. One time on Soldat (which isn't 3d at all)

I thougth it was sound related, so I disabled my sound card in my bios (yes it was onboard sound) and it still locked up.

So I thougth it was cause I just switched out my GF2 (which had no lockup problems) with my GF3 without loading generic VGA drivers first. Well I just screwed up windows, so I'd figure I'd just reload windows (I don't format, I just delete the windows directory, and reinstall fresh)

So after it's all loaded and I got the 30.82 drivers loaded (No I dont use 40, I want to fix this first) it still does it

Last night I used SiSoft sandra and did CPU/FPU/MMX stresstests on my CPU for 4 hours, and it didn't lock, so I doubt it's a CPU heat issue

when it locks, I feel the ram heatsinks, and GPU HS, and it's only warm. The northbridge is very warm, but not hot

My last guess, is it's a voltage problem. and I don't have voltage/VIO bios options or jumpers.

thx in advance

try the 29. series detonator drivers

what OS you using?

i fixed my BSOD problem with nv_disp.dll when i replaced 30. with 29.

all works well now with 29.42 for win2k/winxp
(i use win2k)

IRQ 4 is shared with IRQ 2. Put your vid card on IRQ 9 or 10.

if it was shared windows would show it was. I would think

I'm not sure what "Guest" means so I'll hope he'll correct me if I'm wrong.

But IRQ 2, is linked with IRQ9 to give you access to IRQ 10-15... Long story short I think he's saying you just can't use IRQ2.

From your post thought it says your only using IRQ3 and 4 after disabling your serial ports...

What are you using for IRQ10? Try switching your vid to that one, since it's usually left open and is linked to your Bus ports...

Here's a link to the IRQ tables: http://www.computerhope.com/irqs.htm#irqlist

When does the game stall? Is it at the begining? At a certain point in the game? Or after you've played it for a while? The reason I ask is it might me a faulty memory chip, after playing for a while you might be filling up your ram to the point where it's faulty... Just a thougth.

Isn't it com ports that are shared? Like 1 and 4 / 2 and 3 or something like that?

anyways... I would try putting the vid card on a higher IRQ and see if that helps.

i dont think it has anything to do with IRQs at the moment

since windows shows no conflict

Uranium-235

well I re-enabled my serial ports and it made things worse as far as irq's go

however I just went into T2 and played a pretty long time (nearly an hour) and it didn't lock up. I also did this right after I switched my nvdisp.drv with a 28.xx one (I didn't have the 29's lying around). Well here's my new irq list. Wierd huh?

so I think evil gets the prize. (if keefe approves of a new moderator) ;)

Great to hear... I think Evil does win this round.

Sidequestion, wouldn't a conflict only appear when your using both devices at the same time?

For example, if you look at IRQ3, your sharing both your Vid Card and your NIC, wouldn't that result in problems when going on-line?

UBER!

prize for what??

fixing my problem. right after I switched my nvdisp.drv I played for about 30 minuets without locking at all. so it probably was the fix. I dobut the irq thing had anything to do with it

yeah

Nvidia raised some issues when they brought out the 30. drivers
i still have no idea why its official

theres been some problems with it and it seems they are ignoring it on the surface but im sure they are working on it for the 40. drivers

did you uninstalled the 30. driver completely before going for 28?

Uranium-235
09-30-2002, 04:36 PM
no I just replaced nvdisp.drv alone. heh

Uranium-235

well isnt' this just PERFECT. I replace just nvdisp.drv AGAIN and no lockup to speak of, but I have no nv disp dialouge. I get the feeling god is just screwing with my head

/kills self

I am having the same problem. I have no IRQ conflicts however my GeForce 4 Ti 4200 is on IRQ 11 and my soundblaster Live is on IRQ 9. I did notice that I have no PCI steering on my IRQ list though.

I cannot play a game for more than 5 minutes without my whole rig locking up. My system is not running hot, I went our and bought a 350w Power supply, I cannot figure out what is wrong.

Somebody please help me.

yeah. it fixed it for the most part. T2 plays for quite a while now. However some games like De Profundis take only 3-5 min

I would guess if it works then leave it alone..
I have always made sure that the graphics card was on IRQ11.
Then place NIC,Modem, other PCI cards in order with the sound card in PCI slot "3", NIC PCI slot "5", Modem in PCI slot "4" or "6" depends on how many PCI slots are available.
Since I have never had a problem with this araingment.
I have never changed.

i dunno why but my comp auto sets my Ti4200 1218mb to IRQ 9

it is told by the NVIDIA's Detonator driver on my comp
