Hello Guys!
Bought a PNY 4600 today for dirt "around $200" and sold my 4200ti for $130 so it was a cost effective upgrade :) Anyways my GEFORCE 2 TI is still for sale for dirt :).
Well how does it perform..???? Honestly I am a bit dissapointed in the #'s. My 4200 scored a 11300 overclocked. The 4600 scores 11791 overclocked. Well here is why I do feel the card was worth every penny, while the 4200 cam close in #'s it does not compare in anyway shape or form to the 4600 in clarity, rendering, smoothness ect... The picture quality of the 4600 watching it on 2001se is amazing, makes the 4200 look like old news. While the #'s are not great, the rendering and imaging of the card is hands down a whole different world from the 4200. Guess you get what you pay for and #'s do not mean everyting. Overclocking the PNY 4600ti was nothing special at all, stock clocks on it were
300 / 660. The best I could overclock it was a lousy 315 / 730. The chip in no way shape or form likes to be overclocked, but the samsung ram does pretty darn good. Even going 5 mhz higher on the chip causes lockups and even 5 mhz higher on the ram also causes lockups. What #'s have you guys got off your 4600's..?? I am wondering if the refresh rate correcter I installed yesterday has any affect on scores.

The most important thing is "you like it". It does not matter about anyone else. You are the one that laid out the cash to purchase this card, and if you are happy with it.
I would not enen ask about OC'ing it higher than you have it. If the screen is as good as you want it. If the performance is up there where you like it. No one else's opinions of this vid card is revelant.
You may ask what are the optimum settings for this card. You probably have them at that point yourself.
You are not a novice at these things, so give yourself credit where credit is due.

The Ti4600 is a 'top-of-the-line' card, whereas the Ti4200 is the 'bargain' card of the Ti line. Sometimes that shows up in ways that don't enter into the benchmarking equations (such as picture quality).

yeah that part suprised me a little, but as in anything #'s do not mean everything! Take cars for instance, you may have a 300hp civic but I would take a c5 on the track anyday.

well the 4200ti' are still in the $130 range, and you can pick up a good 4600ti for around $200 bones, would be 100x smarter to go with the 4600 even if you have to wait a bit, man the difference is insane....

PNY, and buy off e-bay! I have purchased half my gear on e-bay and have never had an issue! 4600ti's go in the $200's all day long! I saw a very nice abot siluro 4600ti go for $196 the other day. If you do not have e-bay or paypal or anything drop me the funds and I will get you one :)

This is a stupid question, but how much ram did you TI4200 have? How much does the TI4600 have? I just upgraded from a Voodoo 3 3500 tv to and MSI GeForce 4 TI 4200 with 128 Megs of ram 3 or 4 weeks ago paid $185 USD for it, and think its great. At the time the TI 4600's were a bit steep, what a difference a couple of weeks make, at least the MSI came with an outstanding software bundle. I oc'ed it to 315 core 500 memory but started sweating thermals so backed it down to stock until I can mod my case and put some more fans in.

Right on man :) that should be a great card for you! There is 2 versions of the 4200 ti, a 64mb fast version with stock 500mhz ram and the 128mb version with the slightly slower ram clocked at 444mhz. Both are very good cards!

ive got the 128mb version too
its got alot of room for OC
but im not OCing it yet
the games i run are fine and have no lag at all even at my LCD monitor's max resol.
so im happy
but when more demanding games come out and if i must play them, ill buy some gear for OC and OC the bejesus out of it
Ti4200 is a fast card
definately enough for normal-hardcore gaming
but hardcore-hardcore needs the ATI Radeon 9700 of course
one can never get enough of joy

I just got an MSI TI4600 w/128 megs on eBay for $120USD + $10 for shipping. It was a bulk item, so it didn't come w/ a box or any software, which wasn't a problem because I dnloaded all I needed :/ .
I like it
I had some issues with my old GeForce3 TI200 and the Epox 8K3A+ mobo I have, which is why I upgraded. No issues now :D
I was looking at the ATI9700's and really wanted one but $300 is just too rich for me :shake: . When the price drops after the next generation comes out I'll be lookin at them again though :o .
(thought I'd have a litle fun w/ the emoticons  )
