I am curious as to what the general consensus is on acceptable temperatures for a system and a processor. I have an Athlon XP 2200+ which generally runs between 39-42°C. I am not overclocking currently, and am just inquiring as to where the threshold is where I should be considering new cooling options. Thanks!

i think my 1.2GHz TB is cracked or a corner is chipped off or something

runs hot even with Globalwin CAK38

when loaded, goes up to 52C
lowest idle is about 45

I have a case fan or two, as I bought an Antec style case which has room for some fans. The system temp varies between 25° and 40° C. I was just making sure that the temps were acceptable as I am a newbie I guess, and was making sure that my cooling scheme was fine.
BTW I have a Thermalright AX-7 HS with a Vantec Stealth 80mm fan for my HSF setup. Not a big air pusher from what I have read, and I was hoping that it was adeqaute. Once again, I thank the collective knowledge of the forums for all insight and advice. Thanks!

its good that the stealth can keep it below 50 C

 It's not the quantity or the quality of the fans you buy that gives you lower temps. Its on how you place them...THE ART OF WAR (Against Heat). Strategically placed fans or blowers gives you the optimal cooling. Sometimes you have to cut your way to the case just to place the right fan in the right place.

My temps are high when i`m gaming I end up as high as 54c then if I restart my xp2400 2ghz runs at 1ghz until it cools to 49c.I know I need to fix this but is this a normal reaction? For now I just open my case which is cheap and that my main problem.

i have 5 case fans
