Hello!
Well last night a retarded thing happened to me while I was cleaning the inside of my pc! WOOHOO! Well to make a long story short as I dusted it with all the power off I could not figure out how to blow all the dust out because I was out of compressed air cans. So I did a stupid thing and decided my little 60mm delta fan off my heat pipe blows allot of air so I would use that to blow out the inside. Well it did a dandy job! Now comes to blonde stupid part *LOL* I thought since all was working well and the system did not overheat by the time I got done blowing it out I would just hold the fan on and put the screws back in. Well I got 1 screw in and went to put another in on the opposite corner and WHAP! The blades made contact with my middle finger shattering 2 blades and lifting up about 1/2 my fingernail! That is what I get for messing with a 60mm fan with sharp blades that spins at 6,800 rpm-7300rpm. Well with blood everyplace and about 300 4-letter words at 2 am *L* My fan was dead and I could not run my pc. So off to fried electronics to see if they had any 60mm delta fans available. Well the did not so I bought a new heat pipe sink and am going to order a new fan online for the other and slap it in my girls pc. Well when I got home I examined the new sink and found that the latest design is a bit different with 3 more fins per side and all of them are thinner for a total of 32 per side, not 26!!! and upon install my pc is running 2-3 degrees colder with the new revision! So if you are in the market for a heat pipe, make sure you get the 32 fin version!

Ouch, that suxs... well at least you got a better fan out of it. It only cost you 1/2 a finger nail...
So were are the pics???

yeah it really sucks, finger is throbbing like crazy.. and same fan jsut better heat sink *L* Think I may loose all the nail, oh well :) My problem for being stupid *L*

Let's have the skinny... does severed body parts speed your system up? I can spare a finger or two. :P

Hey think the blood helped cooling hehehe *LOL* Also the new designed heat pipe cost the same and has the same model # so you cannot tell them apart unless you look at the fins! Just a new revision to it, and yeah I learned from my stupid mistake, had no idea one of those little delta fans had that much power!!! But hey it's cool :) makes for fun conversation !

One note, the heat pipe that toms reviewd is the 26 fin version...
eviltechie
10-12-2002, 12:22 AM
still.. how much is it?
dont u have a grill on ur delta?
mine came with one, and i know the reason why they put it there....

You can get the heat pipe shipped most places online for $29.99 US. It is worth every penny, but when you order online there is no telling which version you will get since I have seen or heard nothing about them changing the original 26 fin to a 32 fin.

and does it come with a fan or do you have to buy seperately (adding to the cart)
accurateimage
10-12-2002, 12:39 AM
no comes with a 60mm delta rated at 6,800 rpm min "mine runs at 7,331rpm. Rated at like 37cfm, the tiny thing blows some air! Also yes it does come with a grill but mine was removed for the fan was off the sink with no screws to hold it on

oh ok
fatal mistake in a mistake = finga cutta
chop chop, and yes...
i think blood will make it run cooler
because it ruins the system and make it inoperatable
so temp at "loaded" = room temp...

*L* naw did not short anything but spotted the copper on the old sink, had to run my dremel with a buffer on it to clean off the spots *L*

Thought you guys would like to see the two pipes, if you look close you can count the sinks on the revision 2, it is a little hard to see for I had to take it in my pc, did not feel like taking it out *L* then the other pic of the revision 1 is easy to see.

Any idea if the CFM is higher on the rev2 than the rev1? I was thinking of getting a 60mm 50 CFM Delta to replace the 36 CFM fan that comes standard on the heat pipe.

I don't see why there would be increased CFM's, because all the increased number of fins do is increase the amount of surface area. More surface area equals more heat dissipation.
accurateimage
10-12-2002, 05:48 AM
The stock fan will blow an equal amount of cfm's period, but the amount of air that actually makes contact with the copped and carries the heat away is increase allot...

Okay, so the same exact fan is used, I take it (it was an inclination of mine, but not conclusive). Then...
Exactly. More air is touching metal because there is more metal that can be touched.
eviltechie
10-12-2002, 03:08 PM
larger total surface area =
how loud is the stock fan?
and how much air does it move?
accurateimage
10-14-2002, 01:40 PM
The stock fan is a delta 6 which has various ratings from 37-42cfm, and as for sound it is a little loud but with my case under my desk it is tolerable. I wouldlike to however to an 80mm-60mm adaptor and run two parallel 80mm fans on the sink to reduce noise and increase airflow. Because as eevryone knows the blowing air through a straw makes more noise than blowing it through a pipe *L* In other words the little tiny 60mm fans noisy especially at 7,000 average RPM.

Oh yeah if your useing artic silver 3 there is really no need to apply new goo, once it is stable the stuff stays pretty muchthe same, the white crap on the other hand turns almost hard after awhile *L*

Hello!
Installed the dual fan system on my 32 fin heat pipe today! Results are awsome for an air cooled heat sink, running 1.85V core at 1900mhz "1897mhz" the sink runs at 98-99F!!! Upon peaking this useing seti I see a max of 103 so all in all I am seeing around a 6-7 degree drop in temp on average! Sweeeeeeeeetttt!!! Fans are a little louder but not much and boy adding the second fan really increases RPM!!! the 6,800 RPM fans now both spin at around 8,500 RPM because they are both helping eachother out! Here are some pics and now a side by side comparison of the two sinks with the same model #....

i dont think they will last very long when spinning that fast
just becareful keep an eye on that after a couple of months
ive seen ball bearing fans start smoking because of friction when spinning too fast than it is designed to
because the lubrication will eventually break down unless you use Quakes lol!
but yeah, good setup
how heavy is that monster now?
btw could you show me a good description of how exactly heatpipe work and how well it work with real numbers
thanks in advance

I would make damn sure that thing don't break the notch the HSF is clipped to.

Actually not that heavy man :) No worries I have a head on my shoulders *L* two 60mm x 60mm x 25mm fans are super light :)
