to use when building a new PC? What is the best motherboard no matter what CPU, Chipset, or memory it uses. What's the fastest CPU? What's the best memory? What's the best Hard Drive etc, etc...
Let's all put our brain power together and build the system that puts all other systems to shame. Price is not a factor. 8)
Oh yea, no arguing about what is better than what. Just post what you think would be the best piece in the system. Give some feedback why you think it should be in and if possible, post some links to reviews and benchmarks. If someone posts something and you find somthing better, just say I found something that performs better and leave some specs, benchmarks, comparrisons, etc that proves it's better.

oh a TechwareLabs Ultimate Gaming Machine eh?
wait...
is this going to be made for gaming or video editing or other stuff?
it would be best to assign a specific use for it first then design the machine that is best suited for the job ;)
because there are best parts for each type of job

Humm, didn't think about a specific use ET. That is a very good question though... Let's say the best "all around" system. A moster system that will perform well no matter what your usage.

should we include safety features such as Raid 1 instead of Raid 0?
or go with ultra wide SCSI?

Lets stick with IDE boards with RAID. :)

hey how bout S-ATA?
CiKoTiC

I get the distinct feeling your nit-picking ET. :P
Let just got with current technology available and working. SATA is out but not widely available. Let's stick with what is practical right now.

BUT !!!
S-ATA is soooo superior!!
its Uber Alles!!
its germen for "above everything"
in l337, it means super!
lets see, we could take a system template from Alienware since they usualy know what works best with what...
Intel seems to be in the lead of the CPU market at the moment...

by quite a bit.. like.. tons.. like.. whoh.. like.. look at my logo 8) get to the building and no more talking about uber alles and s-ata! since i built my comp over the summer i know whats best then.. but now i havent kept up so i dunno anymore except the way overpriced ati is top

lets see, for processors
we can do this either way
Dual proc or single proc...
if single, then P4 2.8GHz w/ 512kb cache and 533 fsb
i dunno what mobo is best for this but it has to be able to handle PC1066 RDRAM to achieve its top performance
yup
1GB of PC1066 rambus...
651watts of fan monitoring power supply from Enermax is nice
the bigger the betta MUAHAHAHA
lets do raid!
Raid 0+1
using whatever the best controller there is now, which i dont really know... :P
and 2 200GB Western Digital Caviar SE ATA-100 w/8mb cache
but hmm
didnt we say that Maxtor or some brand has ATA-133 w/ 8mb cache also??
thats probably better
so im sure im juse doing a sketch now
also lets try out the Pioneer DVR-A04
see how DVD burning goes...
and go with Plextor PlexWriter™ 40/12/40
for a perfect game disc back up  (im not encourging anything)
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro for sure...
Liquid cooling is good enough i think
there isnt much need for cryotech unless....
hmmmm......
meh
Innovatek's water cooling kits are awesome as far as im told so...
yes, i know its lame to say "as far as im..."
Sound Blaster Exdigy Platinum 5.1 eX
Intel® PRO/1000 MT Gigabit Desktop Adapter
NEC 2010X-BK 20" LCD with very very fast refresh rate for a LCD monitor
and its Super Bright
2 displays?
why not....
Klipsch Pro Media 5.1... definately
Logitech Keyboards and Mouseman....
yup
deluxo...
umm OS could be controversial
but for MS ppl, winXP Pro is nice...
a custom made case with aluminum, laser cut...
beauuuuuuuuuuuuutiful

I think for motherboard I'd go with IT7-Max2 by abit. all the newest best features. Thats my pick.

The IT7 is a great board but it don't have 8x AGP. :(

so its not the newest with the best features
im looking into the Asus P4PE
let me quote the intro
The P4PE socket 478 motherboard is the world's first solution able to support the next-generation P4 processor up to 3GHz and beyond and Intel Hyper-Threading Technology. Leveraging the Intel 845PE chipset to support DDR333 memory, P4 CPUs on 533MHz FSB and advanced technology such as Serial ATA and Gbit Ethernet, the P4PE delivers a full-value, high-performance solution for today's most demanding tasks.

or the P4T553-C
The ASUS P4T533-C incorporates the Intel 850E chipset with high-bandwidth 1066MHz RDRAM support to deliver the best performance for latest 533MHz FSB Pentium 4 processors. A maximum 2GB of RDRAM is supported with a peak bandwidth reaching up to 4.2GB/s. Play the most advanced 3D games without a glitch, and get the best performance out of today's memory intensive applications. The ASUS P4T533-C and Pentium 4 combine to provide an ideal scalable, high performance platform for desktops and workstations.

or the AGP8X P4S8X
The P4S8X is the first motherboard to provide AGP 8X and Serial ATA connectors. With the SiS 648 chipset, the ASUS P4S8X supports latest 533MHz front side bus and Pentium 4 processors up to 2.53GHz and beyond. In addition to supporting high-bandwidth DDR 333, unique MuTIOL™ technology increases the bus speed between the northbridge and southbridge to 1GB/sec, for enhanced system performance. The ASUS P4S8X also features 10/100 LAN, IEEE 1394, USB 2.0 as well as optional 6-channel audio, S/PDIF, and Smart card reader connector. Unique ASUS features such as ASUS Multi-Language BIOS, Q-Fan, and MyLogo and more are included to ensure the best user experience and value in a motherboard.

Raid Card Promise Fastrak TX2000 ATA/133 Raid card rocks.
SCSI would be faster though Adaptac is good and the Seagate X15 Cheetahs scream
Otherwise IBM Deskstars are great drives
For case Lian-Li PC-71 lots of room and sweet! :wavey:
