Default Windows XP

I have heard that Windows XP is not a very good operating system, even by ms standards.

Looking at Non custom PC's it looks like they all come with this as a standard.

What other options are there?

I work at a computer store and I found that the reason you can only get Windows XP on systems is because Microsoft stopped selling any other operating systems, except for Win 2k.

In my opion, Windows xp is a decent operating system. It is definetly better than Win 95/98/ME because it is running the winnt kernal. I was never a fan of Win 9x so my opinion may be biased. My system seems to be running great with windows xp professional. Before Win XP Pro I ran Win 2k Pro. The stability and speed in 2k and XP are very similar to eachother. The only trade-off that I have found is that Win XP has a lot more security holes than Win2k did. I guess that comes with the extra features though: the bigger the program, the bigger the chance for bugs and security flaws.

Supposedly Pro is faster, but in reality they test right about the same. Any difference is negligible and can go either way.
