A little better but way off my expectations for this card.
There are a couple of issues I'm unfamiliar with so maybe some you ATI owners can help me out with...
1. How do you overclock it? There is nothing in the control panel that lets me adjust the clock settings.
2. I tried the Rivatuner soft9700 patch but it didn't work. Do I need to remove the drivers BEFORE I patch them and then re-install?

Ok, I got RivaTuner to patch it and OC it. Now lets see if the software hack works.

you should be crushing me, but you probably haven't got it configured quite right yet though, but mine is still 9500.. i want that soft9700 edition.. i'm getting icq for it! I'm looking forward to seeing you on icq.. i think it was you that had it!

After I got Rivatuner to patch the drivers I was able to score much higher. It wont overclock worth a crap though. I'm only able to get both the core and mem to 300. Something very fishy going on with the mem clock. According to the specs, it should be a default of 540.

there ya go.. beating me again.. im almost to 13k.. but why such a performance gain with the soft and almost none with me? i oc'ed to 304/303 but can only complete a test without freezing after i leave the comp off for 10-15 min.. i gotta push the last 13 points to 13k

havent u read other posts regarding hacking the 9500?
only the non pro version can be turned into 9700 non pro

Yup. Just the non pro as far as I can tell.

ET, I haven't changed the card at all. It's been stock all the way.
AI, does the chip mod do the same thing as the soft9700 mod? From what I can tell, the soft mod changes the chip ID to a 9700 via the drivers and the chip mod changes the card to a 9700. Basicly doing the same thing.

Not to sure... I think the chip mod makes it able to run it up higher like the real 9700pro.. up in the 390mhz range...

I read an article where you don't have to remove the resistor on the die. Just connect the 3 solder points with some conductive material. Just flash the bios and your set.

HEHE!!! Check this out!!!
I was reading on the forums about converting the Sapphire 9500 to a 9700 and most of the ppl said they were getting anywhere between 320Mhz and 370Mz on the core and a max of around 300Mhz on the memory. I was like "WTF"!!! I have the exact same card and only getting 300/300 stable.
The problem was Rivatuner. I was using it to OC the core and memory. PolPot sent me RadClocker which enabled an overclocking tab in the ATI display settings and I decided to use it instead of Rivatuner.
Can you beleive I'm able to OC the Sapphire 9500 to 378/300 with absolutly NO artifacts or tearing??!!!!
Forget the 4000 point increase I previously reported, it's now up to 5000!!! Here is the 3dMark to prove it!!!

WOH!
holy crap
it seems like thats one good card for its value
have u added any extra cooling accessories to your Saphire 9500 yet?
do u think how long it will last with this hardcore OCing going on
i wanna try and OC my Ti4200 too but im afraid of breaking that precious card...
not sure if i should get some cooling for it or not

i've got my 9500 pro overclocked .. but since the 9500 regular is more upgradable.. and thus better scores attainable.. i think i'll sell my 9500 pro on ebay.. (going for good $ right now) and buy a 9500.. and make some $ in the process! Any thoughts before i jump in on it? 8)

That looks like it but I'm not for sure. It seems that 90 percent of the people out there are getting the Sapphire 9500 128 from newegg. I think because newegg is selling the cards with Infinion memory. Others are selling with some other brand that isn't as good. I forget the name.
Spend the extra 10 bucks and get the same card everyone else is and having success with.
