I picked up another WD 100GB SE drive. Did you say once that in order to have one as master you have to remove the jumpers???

I figured it out. I have 2 WD 100GB SE drives and had to set the primary to master with slave. :)

Well, it's good you figured it out. Generally I think IDE drives are fairly self-documenting as far as jumper settings go, but I do remember some nuance with the Western Digital's as master, depending on whether or not a slave was present.

Yea, it has two different master settings. The only one you use a jumper with is Master with Slave.

That wasn't my problem as I first thought. It turns out I was removing the wrong HD to switch it with. Just wasn't paying attention to what I was doing.

Wd is a pain, no jumpers for master, jumper for master and a slave but they show "master" with a jumper ect... And then they just do not work at all if you have a ata 133 drive in line with them *L* Well at least with my asus a7n8x it does not work... :( I have an extra 40gb ata133 drive laying around and tried to add it on. Anyone want it.?? $50 out the door, very low hours.

CiCoKiC::I guess the premium motherboard for this P4 3.6gb is the Gigabyte GA-81NXP-EF205 chipset. They are kinda hard to find also.

Accurateimage::If you had a 60gb I would take it off your hands.
I need some 60gb hard drives, good ones.
Prefferable 7200 rpm, top brands etc.
I don't need but 4-5 but that is enough to cover the orders I have.
These hard drives prices are all over the board lately.
I purchased a new retail boxed Maxtor 60gb 7200rpm for $69.00 back in November.
Now the going price at most venders is about $100.00.

You guys are right on the jumpers on WD drives.
None for Master w/no other drives.
Jumper with any slave on same cable, wheather it be a hard drive, CDR,DVD,LS120,ZIP,anything.
They have more than one jumper setting for Master w/another drive on same cable.

WD has strange drives

my dad is the consultant at IEI
http://www.iei.com.tw

they make NAS for Iomega and lots of companies
also make server stuff
and automation computers for Rockwell Automation

anyways
he said that they dont use WD because there are some incompatible issues and WDs are just not that fit for this type of application and so on

The Special Edition drives have always shined for me.
They make these from 40gb all the way to 200gb.
Most people will jump on Maxtor, simply because they do not know of the WD Special Edition in the smaller size drive.

yeah the SEs can be cheap sometimes with rebates such as that awesome Fry's during christmas period

8mb cache isnt that useful for average users though
only for ppl who are moving big files around...
