my friend got his nforce2 board today

it just wont work with the graphics card

he put the card on his other comp to see if it is the card that is busted or not
it works

anyways
it shows code 26 during post and hangs, monitor LED is yellow and not the regular green

so he put in his PCI video card, banshee...
it works

and also tried my Ti4200 on his AGP slot and it works too

AGP8x support is enabled in bios
AGP aperture size = 256mb
AGP freq is auto or 66

i flashed the bios to the newest jan/29
weird...

later on, bios had a failure after too many direct reboots or something
and asked to revert settings
so he said yes and the radeon 9700 pro actualy works now

except he has to keep the banshee in it also in PCI slot 2 or 3

we tried to switch that banshee with a SB Live! Gamer but it seems only a PCI graphics card will do along with radeon 9700 pro

dunno whats going on

any suggestions?

no it is not the PSU, ram, card...
shouldnt be IRQ either because the soundcard doesnt work at the same slot

I have not seen anything in particular relating to compatability problems between the board and the vid card. However, you may want to check the EPoX forum at htttp://www.amdforums.com and see if anyone else has had a problem. While browsing through the forums though, you will notice that your friend is not the only one who is having difficulties with that board. Good luck!

This has been a problem with some Epox mobo's from way back.
There is something in the bios that conflicts with the Radeon card and the system seems to not want to boot.
You are actually lucky to have the bios revert to defaults and now the Radeon works.
I found that setting everything to std default before installing the Radeon card is sometime the only way to go.
The problem of having to leave the PCI card installed before the system will accept the Radeon is a new on though.
I would RMA the mobo and get a new one.
Ask the vender to check this mobo out on a test bed with a Radeon card installed before shipping to you. Any good vender that has a tech dept will do this for a customer and not even charge anything for the service.
I know AxionTech.com will do this, cause they have for me a lot of times. Just a little insurance policy on the new board.
