You might know me from silvering my g4 ti4200 to death.. and i sold my 9500 pro and bought a reg 9500.. well it was the new black one and it's not only fixed.. if you try to 9700 it.. it will let you erase the bios. but you cant write to it.. it said like "write failed after bulk erase " or something.. after 10 tries i restarted.. nothing.. i'm on my geforce 3 right now.. i'm not thrilled to say the least.. any ideas?

if i were the CEO of ATI, i would do the same thing to ensure minimal losses and keep the 9700 market alive and active

I agree wholeheartedly, I was lucky enough to get a Radeon 9500 DDR128 Pro and was able to flash the bios so OC'ing was enabeled.
I have read where all the Radeon 9500's had been pulled off the shelves and returned to the mfg for replacing the bios chip.
Your expierences just confirmed my suspesions about installing a new bios chip that cannot be rewritten.
I think this is just good business. For instance when the word first was put out for the general public, you could not find a Radeon 9500 anywhere. Orders from the venders to the mfg was so hot that ATI could not fill these orders. This created a big problem for ATI.
Now that is been taken care of, the cards will be sold and used as designated.
This just protects the hi-end card sales.
