Default 1000 topics!

Wow, I remember back when there were only 30 topics.  This board really seems to be growing lately.

Lets all make it a point to tell another person about netsmog.com everyday.  Then our community will begin to grow even faster!

Cheers...

Or we could encourage those that are already members/ guests/visitors to ask more computer questions and to get more involved.
If you have 10,000 members and no one is posting, then what is the advantage ?

Jinx is right,

Numbers mean nothing without content.

I still think it would be a good thing to filter some of the language here. I truly enjoy answering technical questions in my area of expertise but mostly what I find here is "in general topic stuff" and alot of Hey look at us please type posts, loads of help us out, and make us number one, and vote of us etc.

A truly good site grows itself with content and active members. No need for anything else. It just works itself out. I would ask current members to look at those posts with no answers to their questions and find an way to get them an answer. Those one's not answered are the most important posts on the board becuase that person will definately tell all their friends where NOT to go.

Keep at it guys n gals. This is a good board tho still young.  :

Thanks wizbones,

You are absolutely, positively, adamantly, and resolutely 100 percent correct. Unanswered questions always bother me on on any forum, and usually is a guage of activity.

I also agree about the language filtering, and already went through all that in other post's and threads, and still some post appear to have jumped right off of hardcore porno sites. Looks like nothing will be done about it. Although I recall some one mod/admin or whatever) saying he would pull it if he saw it maybe -except on the general board. Well, that is where it is/was.

This type language will certainly block most female posters, housewives, moms/ seniors, etc that stay home and use their computer for communication, pleasure, or business and have a need to keep their machine maintained.

But worse than that is the newbies that take the time to register, then see all the obscenities , then don't come back.

i used to play an online game and i was in a guild in that game which has its own forum site.  they use YABB also. anyway my point is that they some how turned on a filter so that if you typed a curse word it would replace it with $#%@# once you submitted it. i dont know how they did it but maybe its somthing one of the moderators can look into if you guys are serious about the language.

You are correct and it's easy to set up, the admin just hasn't done it yet. Or isn't going to. Not sure which. There is a filter where you type in the words you want to filter out and what words to put in they're place. It's in the Admin control panel.

Guess we'll see in the long run. There is really only one person thus far I find is a tad offensive in their posts.

That's true, the other day I typed in 'hell' on another forum and on preview, it displayed as '****' , so I just substituted 'hades' and kept going. But as I've stated before, it is not necessarily profanity that most object to, it is obscenities. Most everyone will overlook some - damns, hells, and such as that, if it's not too profane.
But so far, the administration does not see it as a problem here or as a bottle neck to progress. Being on here for only a short time, I am wondering if this forum is foreign owned.  Either British, Australian, European, Canadian, Mexican, Asian or whatever where views on obscenity is different than American, does anyone know ?
I am finding it hard to believe that the Administration is U.S based and not aware of the normal visiting habits and patterns of Americans. Yet instead of trying to maintain and activate existing membership, the motive seems to be - " just add lots more, all will be ok" or " Build it and they will come" .  Like hell they will, that was only good for the movie.
