Hi all, I have a question.
Im about to buy a new video card for my computer but I don't really know what card to choose... At the momment, Im kept 2 cards in mind. The ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128mb) and the Forca GeForce FX 5800(128mb).
Oh and about the Nvidia card, it says it's a "Forca" Card, I think it means its made for Forca Mobo right ? But I have an Asus board... will it works anyway ? It might cause some compatibility problems... (I didnt find any Asus versions of the card) (Btw my board is a Asus P4B266-C)
Thanks for answering.

5800 or 5900? The 5800 is very loud as it has a vacumme cleaner attached to it. The 9800 Pro slaughters it. I'd go with the 9800 Pro, actually, I did.

its what I tought I would do but I alwasys bought nvidia's stuff so its why I tought of the FX 5800. but the radeon 9800 bus speed is lower then the 5800's one... Everything in my comp would run on 400mhz (its the max my board can support and my ram ( 2x 512Gb - 400mhz) too. The FX 5800 would complete the kit since his max bus speed is 400mhz too...
see what I mean

thats the old cooling style
NVIDIA actually went through more than 3 complete designs of cooling for the 5800 Ultra
its not too loud now
but i like the 9800 Pro better because it doesnt take up 2 slots
also both should perform neck to neck for most of the time
its just that price may be a difference for you
also ive heard something about the FX series not be able to support HL2 DX9?
there is still a lot of speculations about this now
so do search around
there are a few posts on this forum regarding that

lol ya the money is the major problem in my choices for now since I still searching for a job. I have around 1200$ (Can money) to spair on my comp but I dont want to use it all cuz I might need some later. I already planned to buy :
Memory : 512MB RAM (DDR) 400mhz (2x) 279.90 $
Network Adapter : Dlink 530TX 19.95 $
Sound Card : Sound Blaster Live 5.1 49.95$
+
My video card (Nvidia GeForce FX 5800 or ATI Radeon 9800 Pro)
btw could someone help me to logon ? I don't know why I can't. I tried to change the password using the "lost your password" function but it still doesn't works. (I personaly own a phpbb forum at www.trif.flagrun.net) I don't see why I couldn't login.

I recommend the radeon, i have an asus 5800 and that is one of the latest in the 5800 designs where they have tried to muffle the noise. It dont work all that well, and the fact that it takes up two pci slots, i'd go with radeon. Performances in the 3dmark tests are a bit byas towards radeon, Nvidia has been kicking up a fuss about it so dont go by those standards of performance. I must say tho i have no graphical complaints about my fx5800 runs everything quiet smoothly, i turn up my logitech z-680 sound system so i dont hear the card hammering at it. GO with the radeon is my recommendation.

There is a FX 5900 128 MB made by MSI that is the same price as the 9800 Pro if you prefer Nvidia. As for the 5800, it sucks compared to the 9800 Pro. I can get over 6000 3d 2k3 marks as the 5800 only gets around 4500. The 9800 Pro is right up there with the 5900.

wait a few months and then the radeon 9900 (see news fourms) will be out and prices on other cards will shoot down on PW
BTW
if your gonna buy a good card....buy top of the line then it becomes obsolete slower
