Well, I think I MAY have figured out
what is wrong with my cd drive.
When I reboot the computer and hold
F2 to get the BIOS screen, right before
it gets to the BIOS, it says that my
internal cd drive is set as a slave.
This is how I got the laptop, so I think
that the guy who owned it before me messed around
with it. I took out the drive, and looked for the pins
that I could set to make it a slave or master (like on my desktop computer cd drives) and there are no pins...

Is this normal?

How do I change it from slave to master?

The laptop is a "Gateway solo 1200".

If the CD drive is on the same port as your hard drive then you want it as slave. To change it from one to he other, you need to set the jumper on it to the correct configuration as shown by the manufacturer (its very often on the drive itself).

In my last post, by "pins" I meant "Jumpers".
There are none. :(
Theres no directions on the drive either.
I don't know if they are hooked up to
the same port, theres no wires coming from the drive
like usual cd drives. Theres just a flat connection
on the back that connects to another flat
connection inside the laptop. It's like what would
be at the end of the wires, minus the wires, just the plugs.
