I just received my new Asus A7V600 motherboard that will upgrade from my old A7A266 motherboard. I have an Athlon XP 1600+ processor and one stick of 256 MB DDR 2100 RAM. I put these components and my video card on the new A7V600 motherboard and plugged in the power supply. The light on the motherboard came on just fine. I hit the power switch on the front and the CD light blinked and the fans inside started spinning. About three seconds after the fans started spinning and the hard drive just starts making noise, the fans lose power and come to a stop. The motherboard light stays lit the whole time, but the rest of the computer just stops. Could this be a voltage issue? Or maybe a compatibility issue? I checked the ASUS and AMD websites, and these two products are supposed to work together. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Anyone have any ideas or advice please? I will have to send this back very soon if I can't get it fixed.

Sounds like a PSU problem. I have that board, and I had to upgrade to a Antec TruePower 480Watt PSU to keep my mods working. I blew 2 sets of Black lights and shorted one Molex spliter before buying the new PSU. If you have a cheap PSU such as a PowMax or L&C, get a new one. The light on the board will stay on even if the psu shorts out or dies.

Cool, but what if we changed the power supply allready?
We have a sort of same problem over here.
PC comes up, often even starts to windows. But after less than an hour it shuts down within a sec. After one shutdown, a few more shutdowns follow up.
Changed al sorts of BIOS settings without success unfortenutely and PC has to be fixed by today. Anyone suggestions?

check psu readings in bios and temperature
for systems nowadays i would urge people to get a quality PSU that has atleast 350W of power

Also unfortunately it could be your CPU. make sure it is seated completely. If you have another CPU try it and see how long the systems stays running. Process of elimination! Put your old system back together and see if it works fine, if so it could be the board it self, RMA.

I'm having the exact same problems, I've been ripping my hair of with trying to find the problem. I know my CPU is ok, tested on another mb, basically the only thing I haven't tried yet is changing to a larger PSU, that will definetely be my next step.

I'll post my results when I get the new PSU.....

speaking of psu, i have a 350w on my p4 system (specs below) i'm going to dish out this ram and get http://www.buyxtremegear.com/geil5.html probably. I'm hoping it will help my overclocking. Do you guys think that 350w isn't enough? If there is any doubt i'm looking at this - http://www.buyxtremegear.com/ps102111.html

OK, got the new PSU, an Enlight 420W. But no change, I still have the same problem. Only thing I haven't tried yet is to change RAM. I have a Crucial 256M DDR, has been working just fine on my other PC...What next, running out of ideas....

Two things I've found on this type of board.
1. The modem card has to be in PCI slot one or the PC will not start.
2. Loading the 4 in 1 VIA drivers causes lock ups. This was the same on my old MOB A7V133.
Worth giving a try.

I know I'm late to this forum, but I had exactly the same problem when upgrading to an A7V600 from an Abit KR7a. It came down to me fitting the motherboard with different length spacers, slightly bending the mobo. Using the same length spacers all round solved the problem.

yes shorting is annoying.. i thought this mobo was dead until i tried to take it back just to hear that it's prob shorted.. and it was..

Not true. For Xmas, I built my sister a computer with this board (since I had it with no problems) and I put the modem in slot 3 and it has given no problems. Also, we're both using the VIA 4.51 drivers -and- the 1006 bios. The only problem that I had with hers was a bit of a cpu overheating problem but that was easily fixed with a Vantec cooler.

Hi,

I'm having exactly the same problem, but only since I use the built-in network card. If I unplug the network cable, everything works fine. I'm thinking about buying a cheap network-card and to find out if that's working.

ASUS A7V8X-X
ASUS ATI Radeon 9600SE
AMD Athlon 2600+

ok try taking the mobo out of the case and putting it on an anti static bag (like the one it came in) and fire it up.) you may have been shorting it. The same thing happened to me.

Yea.. i've tried that as well.. some people are saying it could possibly be a bad proc.. I tried removing the proc to get the beeps but they say i need the proc in in order to send the beeps
