i need something that prints b&w fast and also a good photo printer incase i need to print pictures but it wont happen often

my old epson broke down on me
probably gonna cost more to fix than to get a new one...

but... ive already spent money on 2 more new cartridges for this stylus 670...
sigh

btw
i would prefer inkjet, but a fast one for black and white
i can afford laser printer itself but i might not be able to afford the cartridges for laser!
lol

I will recommend two.
One is the Cannon i850.
This printer sells for about $149.00 and prints photo's extremely well. Fast printing of B&W text also.
One is the Cannon i950.
This printer sells for about $249.00 and prints photo's that will memick 35mm prints. Prints B&W text extremely fast.
I have the i850 and can tell you about these printers by real world expierence.

The best part of these printers is the cartridges (ink tanks) (six of them) are less than $50.00 and will print for several months before having to be replaced.
I have a HP sitting on the floor that prints great, if you can afford over $100.00 per month in printer cartridges.
I have a Lexmark on the wifes system and the printer cartridges are over $100.00 for black and color. If you purchase one package of each Black & Color.

the i850 only has 4 ink tanks and for canon printers, you need a print head thing right?

but i guess thats a good thing since if the print head gets messed up like my epson stylus 670, i will be able to change it instead of getting a whole new one

but printheads are really expensive eh...

so far im reading professional reviews on the i850 and it looks great
especially from what im reading from steves digicam review website
that guy is a real pro...

aight... thanx bobyjo

I read the reviews on these printers before purchasing the i850 and this printer had rave reveiws.
We went to Sams Club shopping and whata know there was a stack of these printers on sale for $138.00, we purchased one.
We haven't been sorry, and yea it is like the Epson.
I read that the printhead lasts quite a long time.
We have had this printer for about 4 months now and have changed the tanks one time. The wife has printed 60 presention booklets, 4 pages in full color.
We have printed several photo's plus the normal letters etc.
I could not believe this printer printed this much stuff without having to replace the print cartridges.
I have been told that you can fill these tanks yourself if you wish.
I haven't done this, for I figured this may cause the print heads to become clogged earlier than using the Cannon tanks.

By the way, I am lovin this IC7-MAX3 more day by day. Super system board.

lexmark x74-x75 maybe pretty good i think

i dont liek any of the lexmarks
their printers are cheap
but they get their money from ink cartridges

they even sued a company for selling cartridges that are compatible for their printers
it is because that their printers have a special chip that communicates with cartridge chips so that only geniune lexmark cartridges may be used and that company defeated that catridge monopoly scheme

i like canon and epson a lot
HP used to be good but now that people print more stuff, their ink seems to be not so economical anymore

btw its good that canon i850 has decently priced ink and also USB 2.0

thumbs up for that
i think ill throw my 230 CAD into the ring for the i850 and ill tell you guys how it goes :)

evil::Do you have a Sam's Club close to where you are?
If so they are a great outlet for most anything you might want.
If not you might try your major office supply house.

I only get HP printers. At least when i bought my last one a while ago they were the only company to build the print head into the cartridge. Costs more for ink, but you get a new set of nozzeles every time. I've know people to have there Lexmark nozzeles gum up from non-use and if you can't clean 'em out, it costs more for repair than a new printer. I've had mine for 3 or 4 years and not a minute of trouble. Great quality print and pretty fast too, I'm not to up to date on the new stuff, but that's my $.02

ok guys
i bought a canon

i560
which is an updated version on the i550
but its got most of its parts from the i850 and also prints 1 ppm faster for colour which is only marketing jumbo i believe..

anyways
all the specs are similar if not the same as i850
and its got direct print as well for the digital cameras that support it
not bad...

ill tell you all how it goes
and also i560 is a little cheaper than i850 probably because it just came out last month

wow
the print speed and quality of this i560 is astonishing

also i found out something about it that makes this a little better than the i850 other than the direct print

its the cartridges it use

for black it uses the BCI-3e which has more ink than the BCI-6e but the same price (same as the i850)
but!
for colour it uses the BCI-6C,Y,M
which the i950 use and it contains the same quantity of ink as the BCI-3e but about $2 CAD cheaper
