HD queston - coexistance?

I'm building a new rig and plan to have a Maxtor 120GB SATA drive as the primary on a MSI 865PE Neo2 MoBo. Is it possible to install my existing HD (non SATA) as the slave to allow transfer of data?

Oh, and while I'm here a question on 'Combo' drives such as the Sony DRU-510. Whilst I note that these can write the various DVD and Cd formats, can they serve simply as a CD ROM drive as well?
