First things first my problem started when there was a virtual bouncer virus on my machine, it caused 2 main problems which were:

1) My display properties were stuck in 16 colours and i was unable to change them.

2) Both my Cd drives stopped reading Rewritable CDs. They still read normal cds and cdrs and are still able to write to cdrs.

Now i had tried installing the drivers for both the display properties and cd drives but nothing happened. So i decided to format the hard drive and reinstall the software. After doing this my display properties problem was fixed but i still had problems with the cd drives.

The first Cd drive (Samsung cdrw/dvd sm-308b) stayed in the same condition.
The second cd drive (Phillips cdrw cdd3610) stopped working altogether.

I am urging anyone who has any helpful information please reply.

Ps. the samsung cd rw still reads normal cds and cdrs it is also still able to write to cdrs. oh and it has stopped reading dvds aswell.

im not sure whats going on with your system
it sounds like the driver files are being altered

i don't think the problem has anything to do with virtual bouncer anymore because i formatted my computer and it is in the state that it was when i purchased it (except for the cd drives)

clean your drive--ya know they do need cleaning evey so often. And just like humans they do wear out. do not make yourself a nervious wreck over it. if after these steps and it still does not work--try uninstalling it and reinstall----and just a added note: virus protection is aonly as good as it is configured and updated,so please protect your computer properly.

i got a 730mb cd from newegg.com and it only holds 702 real mb.. (730 mil bytes) a bunch of crap since it's basically the same #$)(*%& cd as the others.

tsk jason

its like this

marketers like nice even numbers
take a 20 gb ipod

actually 18.5 gb because a GB is actually somewhere around 1200mb but marketers like you to think that it is 1000(also mathematically it makes sense)
I actually discovered this while on tech support from apple kind of interesting same thing goes for cds its not as much as marketers say...its marketing!
