So last night Keefe and I were arguing over aim about what age kids should get cell phones

I say when they need it or can pay it themselves

He says....get one theyre tight

What do you guys think is the right age or time?

Well i'm not a rich kid with money to waste, so i've never owned a cell. My mom only has a pos old phone, which i try to embarass her into getting rid of in exchange for some cool new one. There are times when it'd be nice, but I just don't think it's worth the money, but that's only for me.

as someone who pays for just about everything he owns, and then my rommate works 30 hours a week to pay for a 40,000/yr education, I would say that if you're not working for it, you have no right to ask. If it's offered by the rents, b/c they want to know where you are/want you to be able to contact them in emergency that's fine, but then asking a parent that question would seem to be a bit silly.

i got my phone during the summer of 2001 (i was 20). i have the same phone, i paid for it, and i pay the bills. i got it to call my then fiance long distance, and to call my parents and friends who are long distance. thats still the main use for the phone. though my wife carries it with her now, i make her carry it in case somthing happens to her.

Well i'm not a rich kid with money to waste
oh, i feel your pain.

i've been paying for my pager since i was 15.. when i was 16 and driving[montana law, heh] i got a cell which i payed for until i was 18, i'm 19 now and i bought a new phone.

its worthless to ask for a cell unless you have a really _good_ reason in my opinion.

and i'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination, but i get my bills payed.
