View Full Version : Biostar M7VIT Problem

My Biostar M7VIP recently went bad under warranty, and was replaced with the M7VIT. I updated my Bios, and loaded Windows Professional 2000, which recognized my video (e-GForce4, 64MB) and my modem (Agere Soft Modem). The problem is that when I go to test diagnostics on the modem I get the error "OpenComm" 'Can't open Port'. So I blasted Win2K and loaded Windows 98 SE (under which this modem worked fine) - and I get the same error.

Help! Anyone have any ideas? The Biostar people were hopeless, and the place I bought the hardware kept my system for 2 weeks before returning it to me like this - I'm not keen on the idea of taking it back if I can fix this myself.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me :)

Sounds like either your modem is bad or your bios/os has disabled some port. Try a different modem and if that doesn't work look through the bios and try to get the latest modem drivers if you haven't already.

Thanks guys - you're absolutely right, the modem is toast. You'd think that when their MB went bad, they would have checked what the put back on the new one...DUH! I 'borrowed' the modem out of my husbands comuter and got everything working last night - even dual booting between Win2K and Win98.

Tonight I'm taking the modem and the CD writer (which worked when it left here but didn't when it came home) back but these guys won't be touching my 'puter again! I may, however, leave a piece of my mind with them for future reference

Thanks again - you guys are the best!
