ok, the problems here is you need drivers for your video card. Do you know what video card you have?

lol, that is the reason why i say: get the whore to build ya puter, don't by complete systems in stinky electronics stores that mostly sell washing maschines and where the personal doesn't know the difference between a CPU and a high power hairdryer ::) :P :-/

sounds for me like that lovely intel 810 generic VGA driver.
50 Mb in size & no way to get it separated from all the apps

Good luck anyway

the "standard PCI graphics card" is what windows installs when it can't find the drivers for the video card.

Doesn't matter if it's intergrated or not, go to control panels device manager, click the plus sign left of 'display adaptor' and see the identity of your adaptor.
If you still haven't got it resolved, while there install thru: 'add new hardware', a standard super vga graphics adaptor. Also a standard super vga monitor, select the devices yourself, windows will install generic drivers which should correct most of the problem until you can identify the adaptor and update the drivers, and install the correct monitor.
Anytime you format, windows will usually default to the basic drivers= 640X480, 16 colors.
