View Full Version : The Origin of Your Screen Name: what it means

vee_ess

Often I am asked what my screenname (hereafter reffered to as sn) means. The more I look, the weirder and weirder sn's become. I have heard every reason and every sn I can imagine (without thinking too hard SPAM;D)!

So the point of this thread is to find out how everyone came to choose their sn. So how did you arrive at your sn?

Mine' kinda lame I guess. SPAMWe use to play two player games in High School and had to split the keyboard to play. SPAMI was lookin for a sn that could be typed in on one side of the keyboard. SPAMAnd as KeyserSose reminded me it probably helped that I owned a Savage rifle at the time. SPAMKinda an odd origin isn't it?

Bear

bear=bjorn (björn) the animal
just a straight translation and the name I
used the ten years I lived in the US mostly
carlifornia at that time (70ies) people had
all made up names (rainbow,sparkle etc.)

Wizbones

Wiz for Wizards, I love the midevil time period. Wizards, Sourcerous's, Dragons and the like. Castles especially. Some day I'll own one myself.

Bones, is what my buds called me when I first joined the service. I have tatoo's of skeletons and well I used to be pretty skinny. I weighed in at a whopping 116 Lbs when I joined the Army.

So I kinda favored Wizbones. In facted decieded to call my biz Wizbones PC.

I know not all that interesting but hey you asked. SPAM8)

mine's kinda boring. The user name school assigned to me was coffejor (Coffey, Jordan) and I got so used to typing it that I began to use it as my user name for other things.

MIK3
06-24-2002, 05:32 PM
that stinks that you have to have an assigned name...how come they dont let you pick your own name as long as its school appropriate? SPAMj/w...but it sounds like you've grown fond of this name...so i guess its ok

Omega

Well, I have two screen names that I use. Omega is the older, and original of my two screen names. I came up with it during junior high some day during science. I was pretty smart, so I'd done like, everything in the class already, so I was allowed to go mess around, or whatever, pretty much. The teachers liked me, so it was easy enough to do whatever. Regardless of this, I was somewhat depressed (not to say that's improved).

Omega, the concept, comes from ancient times...ancient Greek I think, and is also alluded to in the bible. "I am the alpha and the omega," said Jesus, (iirc) meaning, "I am the beginning and the end." The end times is somewhat of a chilling, and depressing thought, so that's what I went with.

:: :: SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM :: ::

My other screen name is p14nd4. I'll start off with explaining that translates to planda (not pianda) from 1337 sp34k. This comes from the word panda. Pandas are pretty pimp animals to begin with, so I wanted to do something with that. p4nd4 doesn't look as cool as p14nd4 (imo), plus one late night when I hadn't gotten sleep for a while I was talking to a friend about how cool pandas are (I have some weird discussions late at night when I haven't slept for a while), and we came up with something funny about a planda, so that turned into my other handle.

hi think omega has put an animated gif in there now ;)

get comfy, i have a few SNs ;)

first off, (The)Techfreak, tech as in technology, freak as in a freak, ive always been interested in computers, some time in 1997 when wanting a new alias (before i had pc_nut), i just came up with it while registering for a free domain on freenetname, i wanted somehting cool and interesting and it just came to me ;D

in april this year i started using RogueProtoKol, this was because my parents are paranoid and wouldn't let me use thetechfreak anymore due to me using it once in 2000 while brute forcing a bt mail server, they had been moaning at me for using it ever since, also i was beginning to goto places i had signed up to in the past where i had used thetechfreak and couldn't remember the password, i didn't want to use some lame change like thetechfreak2k etc..., so i finally decided to change, i came up with the name in 2001 actually, i was thinking that it may be a good idea to have a 2nd secret backup id, you know, just in case you get into trouble etc..., i had been playin rogue spear alot at the time and i really like the idea of Rogue, but i wanted something else that reflected hacking/networking/computers, after going through some words i liked RogueProtocol, which i registered only at yahoo, now when i went to switch i couldn't remember the password (was over 15 chars long!), SPAMand a K instead of a c looked better so then came RogueProtoKol ;D

now Techfreak and RogueProtoKol is my main alias, other screennames i use are;

Maverick - for online flight sims, top gun is one of my faves movies and im interested in military aviation, and im a damn'ed good pilot so Maverick seemed to fit ;)

Merlius - for any medievil style games (and MUDs mainly), obvioously the medievil theme, wanted something which sounded good as well, Merlin was too magic like, wanted something which sounded more aggresive like a warrior but also wise like a wizard, Merlius was invented (first used on A Dark Portal)

the only other SN ive used is pc_nut and pc_nutcase when i first came onto the net in 1995, i was 8 years old so new to the net, as i said ive always been interested in computers so i came up with pc_nut and then pc_nutcase when i forgot my password!

thats my history, you can goto the toilet now :)

I'm actually thinking of changing my s/n here. SPAMWhat do ya'll think of the "Grinnin' Reaper" . SPAMGrinnin 'cause i've allways got a huge grin SPAM;D(that's why I post SPAM;D all the time). SPAMAnd reaper cause I have some dangerous hobbies. I was wonderin how observant you were...
Oh yeah, ive been meaning to ask you vee_ess, what does yours mean, this is about the 25th post on this thread and your the one that started it, so what does your's mean? SPAM???

So, well, my initials are V and S and I have always had trouble actually getting a screenname, liking it and then remembering the password, and thus voiding those screennames.

So I started tryin for screenames at hotbot mail (deceased) and somehow came to vee (sounds like v) and same thing for ess (s), and at the same time came up with a password that I didn't forget.

Now, I have a screenname that I can explain to peeps and they say "Whoa! that's so cool" or something like that and one they can't figure out on their own too easily, and not too hard to get anywhere I go, and finally a password I can't forget.

My password is actually pretty ingenius if you ask me. The very thoughts that occur when I forget it are what remind me of what it is...Try figurin it out tho!

damnit, f00k, blx, s*it - thats what goes through my mind when i forget my password SPAM>:(

in the past before i went to rogueprotokol i had trouble remembered what password went with what alias, ive been through about 10 odd regular passwords, now i always have the same password for RP and always the same for my other aliases

my password is pretty good as i can write it in a plain text file so its easy to remember but no-one else could ;D

damnit, f00k, blx, s*it - thats what goes through my mind when i forget my password SPAM>:(

So RP...is when ever you forget a password..you simply splurge our "fun words" to bring the memory back huh..being that the words are used often in terms of forgetfullness..i think that they are appropriate words and that they're fairly easy to remeber is that is the point that you are tryining ot make...yeah i just ask my self if i remeber it and if not...i try a password after password until something rings a bell..then i get it! SPAM ;D

I would of told about mine sooner, but I didn't feel like getting my NES collection back down...

A few years before I was really into computers, I started collecting rare, Unlicensed NES products. SPAMAlthough my collection never really ammounted to much, the name NES_Master stuck with me. SPAMI do have a new user name, but most sites wont let you change your name, so I'll just stick with NES_Master...

Well, some of the stuff isn't perfectly emulated yet... SPAMAlso, alot of the stuff you play on your emulators is because of myself and my brother SPAM;D

Also, I'm into hardware collection rather then the games... SPAMAs you saw, I had a Game Action Replay, which hasn't, and I don't think, can be emulated. SPAMThere is also the Aladdin Deck Enhancer...it's been emulated for a while, but whats the fun unless you have it?

MIK3
07-03-2002, 10:55 PM
yeah and i heard that some of the original un-opened un-touched stuff for NES gets way up there in prices...do u have any of those rare pieces....dont sell them if you do until a while because they can really get up there in value an u could use that to buy u some NICE computer pieces!!!

Well, Cheetah Man 2, all my Aladdin Deck Enhancer stuff, Quattro Arcade, and my Game Action Replay are collector items. SPAMAlthough I use all my stuff(I can't just leave it there unused, I have to see how corny the games are!) most of it should bring in quite a bit from a collecter...

Uranium-235, can you find out what atari thing is worth so much. SPAMI have tons of atari stuff as well, but most is farly common.

(if you can't tell, I also collect systems)

MIK3
07-04-2002, 01:23 AM
yeah it was either an Atari used by a FAMOUS!!! star...or one of the first produced or another option would probably be that it has some kinda special feature that only that system comes with..yeah i sureley wouldnt play that one! haha!
