Hi I am at college right now and my school has a domain it made everyone join. Oh btw im not as computer savy as you all are so im asking for layman terms..point and click stuff. I dont want to hack the server or anything, what I want is to be able to run IM on our network. The IT guy says that he can tell what packets..or something are going where. ie downloads get a priority...games are blocked and so are im'ers. And so on... I was wondering if there was anyway I could somehow mask what I am doing on my computer. Please help just for the purpose of undermining authority, and rules.

It depends on what they are watching, and what they are using to watch. Proxies can get you hidden from some methods, but there are many others that leave nothing for you to do to hide your activities. If they really want to watch what data you transfer, and you are connected through them, there is simply nothing you can do about it (except maybe secure tunneling, but that's more advanced and still not hidden from all types of monitoring).
