Default Imitating modems over network connection to intern

I have an account with an isp that allows me ftp access to webspace if I dial up to it. However, I cannot access this ftp space when using a proxy network connection to the internet i.e. when I don't have to dial up.

This is obviously a restriction to the service I have subscribed to . I would like to be able to connect to this ftp area.

Does anybody know if it is possible to emulate a modem connection over this kind of network connection to perhaps fool the ftp server? If so how can I do this?

Hmm...i really do not think that your restrictions are from that.  When you have the proxy running what kind of internet connection are you on?  And, are you connected to the same company.  Your ISP might block all incoming ftp connections to their server if you do not have one of their IP addresses.

Your ftp program may not be using the proxy either - so you may not even be trying to connect. Setup the proxy in i.e and try to ftp using it. ftp://userassword@yourisp.com

If you can get in that way then your ftp program wasn't using the proxy - you may need to set that up.
