as for your question, I'm not totally sure what you're saying.

Is there any way I can make my computer a server or something so I could use the internet through my computer?

what kind of server? Are you aware thiers a program that can tunnel almost anything through port 80 on a proxy?

Yeah. I found a webstie, that if you have an always-on connection at home (or any computer that's internet is not blocked by BESS), you write down the number it gives you, and blocks BESS...It is only temporary...after you log off (novell, windows, restart, etc.) it goes back to normal...so supposedly the geeks at your school don't know. My school uses Novell with XP's, 95s and 98s and it works...here's the website:

I haven't check that site, nor am I familar with "BESS"
but if your School Admin's are halfway competent (many aren't due low pay offered by most schools) and have decent software /equipment (again, low budget kills the best layed plans), they should be able to block any port, site, or user. from anything they choose. And if they can't, then why have them or any software "blocker".

I think someone posted a question identical or similar to this a while back. Try searching the forums for more insight.

My school used to use Bess... But we figured out too many ways around it :) So they had to go with some state funding thingy.... You can get around it with proxies no problem. :)

Our schools IT guy is totally dumb in the mind. First off he is the second highest pay individual at our school ($70,000 a year) and he buys only Apple Macintosh crap. It sux. :-( The funny part is he doesn't know any of the school's network infrastructure.

He either gets me to do it or they hire a dude for $1000 a day. Basically, he sux. :D

Dude, all you have to do is get the override codes. It's not hard, install a keylogger on the computer, get a legit reason for getting into the blocked site, have a teacher that knows the codes get you in, after she/he is gone, open up the keylogger and look at the UserName and Password. Has worked for me mutliple times. And Our school tech person is very smart, fricken knows like 80 billion programming languages. anyway...yeah...do what I mentioned and you will have no prob.

Tyler

Attention!

The easiest way to get around bess is a CGI-proxy.
Go to my site http://cprox.netfirms.com or https://cprox.netfirms.com for access to multiple proxies with a single click. Features also includes hotmail, AIM express, and ICQ anywhere.

If you would like a proxie that works to get around bess, email me. I have worked my ass off trying to figure out how to get around it, so if you want a way around bess, send me $5 via PayPal.com to my email address. I guarantee that my way works, I have been using it for over 2 years!!!!

Ok i know of one way to get around bess but it only works on some web sites. Hit Alt+R the run window will come up. Type in command. when the window comes up type ping www.whateveryoursiteis.com then hit enter. Some stuff will come up. A set of 2 or 3 diget numbers will come up. For example say you do www.ebay.com you will get 66.135.192.11 simply type this into the location bar just like you do a web address and presto. Bess does block some of the ping numbers for some sites but you can get threw to a lot of them. Its better then nothing I hope this helps.

here is a site to also go to

The only way i have found is to go into megaproxy.com, when bess says you cant go there just simply add an s to the http, example, https://www.megaproxy.com, with this you can view whatever you would like to.

for some websites you can go to https://www.idmask.com and just say yes when they give you the pop up screens. when the site opens up, scroll down until you see "click here to start idmask". Under that there's a little box that says click here to start idmask. click that and follow the directions and always say yes to the prompts.

this may sound stupid, but it works just great. There are two sites that i know of that will get you around bess. drew.croker.org will work, when u scoll down to where it says "nh folks go to my home getaway proxy" or just go to www.altavista.com, and go to the translator. type in the web page and select chinese to english translation for the web page. sounds crazy but it works just fine

goto peacefire.org and there is an easy way to bypass bess! It sets up a server on ur own home computer and it works the same way as https://megaproxy.com but it supports flash games/movies and more!!!
